Bad choices

(my details may be off, but it was def Agnes Scott).

Just saying, things are more flexible than they first appear.

For sure I'd be submitting a few more applications right now that are due 2/1. But then I'd have a deeper conversation and if you learn new things and have news idea, I wouldn't hesitate to have your daughter call, say, the U of Puget Sound and asked if there's any way they'd accept her late app. I would not be surprised if they said, sure. Esp if she was bringing some good (for them) test scores with her.

UMBC seems to be the obvious option, with maybe a WI and RI app (we need more details on what she does like). But then Id look a bit deeper too.
Totally correct. Any LAC outside of the USNWR T40 will have that conversation until the summer, at least, and many offer both very strong STEM and very generous financial aid, e.g., Kalamazoo, Wooster, Lawrence.

My kid had one set of recommendations in the Common App. Why would you need recs again? They should be done.

They are just in the Common App.

Some schools use different systems. My kid had to fill out an online form to tell where recs need to go. Still, adding a late app just required emailing the counselor

My sense is that the OP’s kid likely thinks she’s too good for the schools mentioned.

Can you apply to be a first year after doing a year at CC?

No

No. Simply add the school to Common App, go to the Recommenders and FERPA tab, and click the Manage Recommenders button.

You'll need to follow the school procedure to send the letters but you don't have to ask the teachers for anything else. And it's ok to have those arrive after the deadline (transcripts too). The deadline is for the student. The high school can have a bit more time to send documents

Yeah, this. Those should already be pretty much ready from the previous submissions, and when you submit the app, they will get notification to send. You don't have to alert a recommendor for every added school once they've written for one.

Do give a heads up to counselor about the transcript because many schools ask for lead time on those, but I bet they could step it up if they get a request.

I also agree with you helping DD out with cut and paste, and I'm a poster who rails on people who "edit" kid's essays. This is not that. You are being strictly admin support here. Also, hot cocoa and popcorn.

You got this!

Tomorrow, go for CNU, ODU, SMCM, WPI, Muhlenberg, and/or Rose-Hulman.

Add in Wooster later and then WVU if there is any steam left.

Just not sure that desperately flailing out apps to mediocre schools is a better approach than year off or community college. Among other things, if the OPs daughter is concerned with what her friends would think about community college, the girl might balk at CNU or ODU for the same reason.

How is this in any way helpful?

3.7 test optional + results OP kid is disappointed in + deadlines limiting options = consider lesser-ranked schools
