Bad choices

It's not too late to expand her options. Lots of quality schools haven't hit their deadlines yet (and many others, on the DL, will continue considering applications past their "deadlines"). What's your state of residence? And what does she want as far as big/small, urban/rural, warm/cold? Area of study?

We are in MD. Strong STEM interest

I agree applying RD and there are some good schools listed earlier for STEM (Michigan, Wisconsin, GMU, Rose-Hulman, WPI, etc...)

Sorry to hear about your daughter's situation. I definitely wouldn't do 1. I think 2) CC to transfer sounds like a good option. I wouldn't do 3 as it's hard to keep those academic skills up. Other possibilities: Every year there is also often a list of schools with spots left to fill that you can apply to late.

There are also a LOT of schools with a 2/1 application deadline and some with a 2/15--so if she got her act together tonight, she could apply to some more to expand her possibilities:

Good luck!

PrepScholar did not publish a “complete list.” They neglected all the regional schools. If she doesn’t mind Jesuit, have her apply to St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Very underrated school.

Apply: https://www.sju.edu/admission/undergraduate

Recent kudos to alumni under 30:

And I’m assuming she’s a nice kid! St. Joe’s has a great community.

She may even be invited to Honors College with her stats. Let us know where she ends up, please!

My child was in at St Joe's as an early safety.
We have been really impressed with everything we have received from them.
My child is going elsewhere - but it has risen up the list for my current 9th grader to look at.
My child got a lot of merit with much lower GPA

you are very close to having 3-4 options in April. then you can take those and try for more merit. it's a lot of money on the line, on top of the rest. just get them in!

Op, please get the log in. Cut/paste/edit past applications and essays and cast a wider net. Start with suggestions from this thread. Knock them out in the next few hours and days. Your DD might need a reprieve. It’s ok to step in and help in this way.

Once that’s done you can see what other support is needed, lick wounds and prepare.

I know other posters share other schools that atill have opening later in the Spring. Make that your plan B. You are actually still in your Plan A period. But if she’s emotionally drained please dig deep and step in and help. You’re giving her a gift by expanding her choices and giving her time before a final decision has to be made.

For last minute apps do you have to request recommendations again? My daughter seems to think so

You'll need to follow the school procedure to send the letters but you don't have to ask the teachers for anything else. And it's ok to have those arrive after the deadline (transcripts too). The deadline is for the student. The high school can have a bit more time to send documents

Yes. I was going to post this sentiment, which this PP did so well. Good luck to OP's kid!

If you’re in MCPS, just add the schools in her common app and the references should go to those schools. Focus on the application now- UMBC has a 600 word essay. you can just reuse one she wrote before. Make a list and get off DCUM and help her out, OP!!! We are rooting for you.

If she is using common app just need to upload it all the docs are there. No need to ask teacher

I really like all the posters here with good suggest unlike some other threads. We as parents need to support each other there is not single path and we all have different challenges.

I posted a somewhere above also, but to reiterate. UMBC is in state, is a good school, is strong in STEM, and is wildly better than CC. DC can transfer out if desired, and would be easier from UMBC than from CC.

Please do UMBC first.

Regarding Pitt, probably should express willingness to accept a branch campus (Greensburg, Johnstown). I went to main campus, met many branch campus kids who came to main campus after one year. May be easier to get in.

Most of these schools are reaches with a 3.7 TO from MD public school, especially for STEM. OP needs to go down a tier or two.

Agree, it seems an appropriate target.

I would be shocked if this kid applied and was rejected from UMDCP. In any case, Pitt is rolling admit and a great school!

This, UMBC is a good STEM school!
