Wtf. Why? The person reacted out of fear and shot this poor innocent kid! The perpetrator had choices. He could have NOT opened the door! When strangers knock on my door, I often don’t open it.

The LAST thing I would ever do, is pull out a gun and shoot them, for godsakes. We know this child was innocent. And now his life has been taken. I hope the person who shot him rots in jail.

Maybe it'll transpire that the kid was dealing drugs and it was a deal that went south.

Who knows. There's very little information. More will come out in due time. Maybe the allegation is right. Or maybe there's a lot more to it than we are being told for now. There have been plenty of instances when something that initially seemed like a horrible tragedy turned out to be much murkier once more information was released.

That's why I reserve all judgement until more is known and don't resort to knee jerk emotional reaction.

The shooter is in his 80s so, no, I don't think it was a "drug deal that went south."
Potential dementia

80+ yr old white guy with a gun? I'm guessing he watches Fox 24-7, sees reports of the crimes in Chicago, DC, etc. being perpetrated by black youth and hence ALL black youth EVERYWHERE are out to loot Walmart - or loot his home. Doesn't have the critical thinking to realize that one guy alone ringing is doorbell isn't there to rob, he's more likely there to sell solar panels or something. And in any event if you're one of those people who doesn't open the door to people you don't know, couldn't yell thru the door to ask what the kid wanted/tell him he had the wrong address??

u would say that you are the one lacking critical thinking skills. you seriously lumping all 80 year old white men together. I know a few and nine of them are anything close to what you describe. but here is your hypocritical self blaming old men for generalizing when you are here sou g the exact same thing.

FWIW, Kansas City has the 5th highest homicide rate in the country, higher than Chicago or DC. I don't know the city or his neighborhood - although when I looked at Maps, I saw that the house was one block from an elementary school.

Got it. IDK anything about Kansas City obviously but just saying that Fox will run hours of coverage on the packs of black teens who ran around Chicago looting all weekend or the car jacking sprees in DC and once old people watch that for hours and hours per day, having little contact ever with anyone who doesn't look just like them - they become convinced that ALL black youth everywhere are exactly the same. No black youth could ever be ringing a doorbell for any reason but to rob and mug in their messed up minds.

From what I have read, the area this happened in is a KC suburban section in a neighborhood called Red Bridge. https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-search/Red-Bridge-North_Kansas-City_MO

That's a strange neighborhood - some houses built in the '50s and some new builds. Are they teardowns? A new development on some newly acquired land?

Think Chevy Chase/Bethesda/etc where this is mixed in new and old, small and large

And yet, these same people aren’t scared of white males who enjoy running into buildings/theaters/schools/clubs/concerts/grocery stores/churches to shoot adults and kids.

Exactly. It makes no sense. If you're scare of a teen black boy, why are you ok with white young men in malls or grocery stores or really anywhere given their anger issues??

I agree! I think we should ban all males from entering this country until we get the ones we have under better control.

According to CNN he is home recovering with his family. Which is fantastic really, considering the alternatives.

Just get rid of the guns.

I'm just making the point that I personally know people who are very uncomfortable with black people

Wow, what a sad, sad comment this is. And innocent Black boys pay the price.
Meanwhile, we've got way too many people arguing that White kids shouldn't be taught history because it might make them uncomfortable. Compare that to your very existence making someone uncomfortable - based on SKIN COLOR! SKIN!

Felony charges are being brought against the shooter. The prosecutor says third does appear to be a racial component. He will be held on a $200,000 bond.

Just another reason to avoid flyover country altogether. So vulgar!

If you're interested in the details of the murders committed in Kansas City metro area in 2022, this article is more specific.

https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article257005492.html

This is a listing of homes and neighborhoods near Staley High School, where the young man attended school. It's a nice neighborhood. It's not Chevy Chase or Bethesda as someone upthread suggested because of the combination of older homes with newer homes.

https://www.zillow.com/schools/36368/staley-high-school/

What some people outside of these metro areas don't understand about crime rankings and ratings, or maybe they do understand, is that most of the murders in Kansas City occur within a certain mile radius of a few neighborhoods.

The federal government needs to step in and get rid of these stand your ground laws that shield people from any accountability or culpability for their actions. We should not be in a country where you shoot first and ask questions later, especially with the amount of guns and lack gun laws that this country has. We are literally creating perfect conditions for entire races of people to just be eliminated with no legal repercussions

America thinks its such a "free" nation. We are ruled by fear, fear of one another. We are ruined by guns. Guns and fear and distrust and self-interest. We have never been less free than we are right now. It's a joke to say this is the best nation on earth. It used to be the case. Now we're all just prisoners of fear. Guns have ruined it all and there's no going back.

Thank God for that neighbor. I hope that man rots in jail

The only way to come back from where we are as a nation is for there to be consequences for people who use firearms. Until more and more people go to jail for years, if not for the rest of their life, they will continue to shoot and ask questions later

85 year old charged with 2 felony counts and there's a warrant for his arrest. Prosecutors also say there was clearly a racial element to this but didn't charge a hate crime bc in Mo. that carries a lower penalty than his current charges.

85?? Watch now we're gonna get the - oh but he's so old he'll miss out on time with his grandkids blah blah.
Anonymous
This guy isn't going to serve any time. He's gonna play the old, limited capacity card and people there are going to believe it.

And just because he's home recovering, doesn't mean that he doesn't have significant injuries which may require lengthy rehabilitation, possible lifetime pain and keep him from playing his instrument. There's a ton of real estate between critical condition and just fine.
