Overrated restaurants in the DMV

I know this is not considered fine dining but Founding Farmers is terrible. I hadn’t been there in years and recently went for my daughter’s birthday. It was so bad. They were out of some menu items and the portions were huge and unappealing. The only good thing was the service. When it opened in Park Potomac, we went there frequently and it was fine. Not sure what’s going on.

If you live in Westover or Cherrydale and this happens to be your neighborhood sandwich and pizza joint? Well, it’s pretty amazing to have one this good! It’s probably not a place to drive a half an hour or more for. We are in Westover and love it.

People in Arlington only think it is good because they have no competition. If you had the option to go to a real Italian deli like the ones in other parts of tge country, you would realize how overpriced and overhyped the Italian Store is.

I also agree Italian Store is too expensive for the quality.

The Italian Deli in N. Arlington is much better.

Filomena. Heavy greasy food served in a dark basement.

What are peoples’ opinion on l’ardente? We went and it was expensive.

Italian Store -- so overrated.

True Foods. I've tried it 3 times; everything is too salty.

Agree! He has a list of about 5 favorites regardless of the question. He always recommends Rasika, for example. Gross!

I've been to two of the True Foods in Arizona and they were great. I was so excited when they started popping up in this area and the quality is not the same (been to 3 different locations).

Ted’s Bulletin. Everything I’ve had is meh. Grilled cheese, meatloaf, etc. And the pop tarts overrated. There weren’t even that good. I’ve tried several times and still hate it.

+1

Agree that service is good and that’s about it. Everything is just meh. Used to be better.

100% agree. Planta is one example of a place he raved about that, while it's not bad, it's not good either. Especially when you factor in the prices.

+2 on Tom and Planta. Planta is an expensive overrated chain with way too much deep fried food to be considered healthy. Tom’s reviews have never directed me to a place I love or a dish I was excited about. I use to live in Atlanta and was spoiled by John Kessler’s spot on reviews.

One of the worst restaurants I’ve been to.

The lasagna was amazing. It’s an expensive place, but it delivers.

I agreed - loved it, great service too. It was very expensive but tbh I feel like that’s everywhere these days.
