Overrated restaurants in the DMV

Nobody goes there for the food.

Tail Up Goat - we had some takeout during the worst of the pandemic and it was actually bad.

Rasika good but others like Indique do much better takeout. That spinach doesn’t travel well.

Indique closed at the beginning of Jan. I will especially miss their breads

Thai is really hit or miss here and it’s mainly miss so I’d be interested to hear what you think is okay. Le Dip is fine. It’s like Starbucks. You get what you expect.

I like Thai Express in the Kentlands. Food is better and prices are too.

Northside Social is more of a bar that serves food. Like Clare n Dons. You don't go for the food.

NP. I know Northside Social is just a bar or coffee spot but I feel like the food is just way worse than it needs to be. It bugs me because it is a really convenient place to pop in or meet up and takes up a primo spot in Falls Church and then they just can’t be bothered to even taste their own food to see if it’s decent. But I often think places that have such good locations that they’ll always have customers don’t even try to do a good job.

Hate matchbox. Portions are small, prices are high and the food isn’t even good. I remember when there were huge lines. Not Anymore. Average at best.

Has anyone been to the McLean location? The decor is not good -- it's like a slight upgrade in a place that used to be a fast food place, or maybe, at best, a Denny's or something. Food was average at best.

I’ve been. It was awful. The pizza was the most decent thing on the menu, but there are MUCH better pizza options in DC. For us, there will not be a repeat visit.

L’Ardente belongs on this list. Super overhyped. The lasagna is instagrammable but the ambiance is very generic and the rest of the food is meh. Not worth the price.

You guys are going to eat at bougie trendy places. No wonder it’s all overhyped.

+1 to both of these

Also afternoon tea at the Willard

I wanted to try the afternoon tea at Willard, why do you think its overrated?

Founding farmers all day long.
Old ebbit grill. So so mediocre. Every time someone says they are coming to DC and were told that can’t miss it I have to hold it in.

Scones are good but the rest of the food included with the tea is not.

I just don’t like it. The pasta is over cooked, overly greasy. the knots bread is always hard as a rick. Prices are high. Now they are opening another location. I don’t get it. place is way overrated

Yeah, the food is not good at all.

Anonymous wrote:I agree the following are over-rated:
Roses Luxury
Fiola Mare
The Italian Store
Elephant Jumps
Seasons 52
Le Diplomate - Not bad, but usually oversalted
Taco Bamba
Barley Mac
Blue Duck

I enjoy:
Tail up Goat
Rasika
Thip Khao, although some dishes are not good

I thought this was just kinda hole in wall place - not really hyped up. It's good Thai - nothing over the top. Sisters Thai belongs more on this list - good but also nothing special (other than quirky design).

Hate Sisters Thai. It’s Thai food for white people who have not idea what real Thai food tastes like. The pad Thai is fluorescent orange. Hated everything there. And pricey.

Yes, very disappointing. Love the decor, dislike the food.

THIS! It was good and innovative 20 years ago. Not worth it now. I also think they are Trump supporters.

Disagree, one of my most memorable 3 star michelin meals, flavors were on point, eyes rolling back in my head. Just one dessert was so so, but it was lemon based so not my favorite flavor to begin with.

Cannot speak to their political preference but not sure where you got that from either
