Feedback on Capital tryouts

More than likely, 10 of the spots are just obvious. And there are maybe 20-30 girls competing for the remaining 10 spots.

I honestly don’t think it’s that complicated. It’s a running sport and I suspect that the sprints immediately screen out half the girls or even more.

Exactly. They did the sprints within the first hour at the Capital tryout and likely crossed off a bunch of girls right there.

Its a hard truth to take for some but that's just the nature of the game and reality. Speed is a huge factor and sets the elite/top players from a lot of "good" lacrosse players. As you and others all know/said, as you move up the ladder or pyramid, the pool of top players continues to shrink. Athletes with speed will give the edge to stand out among a crowd etc. Just the reality of playing at the highest levels. It's ok not to be there as there are lots of places and levels for kids to continue to play.

To the earlier poster above, I'd agree that outside of the top players from Pride/Stars/BLC, you are talking about maybe 10 spots with 20 top outside girls that can contend. Everyone wants or thinks they can make Capital Blue and there's nothing wrong with that, but reality is the pool is actually pretty small.

Agree with actually having the talent to make the team. I posted earlier that my DD was at the tryouts but didn't make the team. Is she upset? Was a little. Am I upset? I want my daughter to be happy but to be completely honest, I knew (and DD did too) that she didn't have the top talent of the other top girls. She just doesn't have the speed A million sessions with Gussie wouldn't change that. It is what it is and it's fine. She'll find another home.

I will be interested if any BLC 26 kids made Capital - either Blue or Orange.

Curious about this as well. Did any BLC make Capital?

Maybe this will stop the bleeding. For the last two years now, Pride Black kids have a 50% chance of making Capital Blue. Pretty good odds.

Is this supposed to be funny because it did make me laugh. Capital is an elite high school program. Elite players will try to get there before another club. Other clubs are great but when you get to high school nothing in the DMV is Capital.

DMV Pride 2023 has 9 commits. The other four are from the now defunct Pride Baltimore. Technically still Pride, but most likely got the recruiting assist from LT, who owned the club before KMG bought her out, rather than JM or the current recruiting coordinator.

I am not sure but I would guess Capital Orange has that many as well....so again.... not sure why anyone is turning down Capital Orange....

My kid was not on Stars or Pride but I have eyes....I can see that those two teams are in the top 10 and play harder schedules with better individual players than most other local teams. How you don't think that those two teams would field the Blue team is your own craziness. So like you said....come on people!

It the same every year for the past 5 years. 16-18 girls from Stars and Pride. 4-6 girls from other clubs. (CavLax, Metro, sometime BLC).

Next year will be the year where everything is turned on its side where anywhere from 10-13 BLC girls should make it. It is very possible Stars places ZERO 27s on Capital Blue. (I think CLC will ended up adding one or two Stars girls for optics, but it may not be deserved).

Clearly, you are new to club lax.

Why on earth would a girl at the end of the bench have her family pay 50% more to not play? Right now, Pride had 4-6 girls who only play in blowouts. This would raise that number to more than 10.

Also, if you put a breakup fee option in, that also means you need to guarantee a roster spot multiple years out, which doesn't work either and would prevent them from adding more talented girls. I remember one time the owner gave a couple 5th grade girls some crap about going to another team's clinic. One of them responded, "I won't go to anymore if you guarantee me a roster spot for the next couple years." She shut up pretty quickly then and never mentioned it again

The only realistic option for Pride would be to invest heavily in its B (White team), start playing them in better tourneys and groups and attract a high caliber player so they can more easily backfill spots.

If it makes you feel any better, next year Pride's success rate at Capital will be well below 50% with all of the BLC talent in this class. May not be more than 5 girls who make Capital.

Maybe Pride should not have entered the competitive high school market and instead took the approach of Stars which seems to be we will have a high school option for those of you that don't make Capital. Encourage the relationship with Capital so that you attract middle school talent. You will not compete with Capital so make them your friend. Much like what BLC is trying to do. Although it is obvious BLC is only doing so because Capital wants those 27s and doesn't want anymore of them going to Hero's.

Always pick the A team. For every team/organization, B teams are just a way to finance the A team. The A team is how a club lives, succeeds or fails. All of the resources is invested in the success of the A team. Never believe the propaganda that their B team is really an "A" team. That is marketing. The only club where that is somewhat true is M&D Red. It used to be true for Hero's 2026 White but then when they started promoting the better players to the A team, that team disintegrated. Proves the point. NEVER GO TO A B TEAM, IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO GO TO AN A TEAM. No brainer.

I would agree with this for everywhere except Capital.

Depends on the club. If you have an option to pay at a top AA club like Integrity of MD United, I would definitely take that over Cap Orange. As for lower Virginia clubs, its probably a toss up

There are also several "national" clubs which are always looking for solid players with college aspirations. There are additional options there if you are looking for another option or even a "second" club.

Yes. There will be girls who don't make Cap Blue who are good enough to play for a second tier MD Club. For lots of these girls, the best option is an hour north.

What schools have Capital orange 2023 players committed to? Is there a list?
Anonymous
Or orange 2022? Since that cycle is closed.
Anonymous
Website lists for 2020 and you can see Instagram for recent commits. Doesn’t specify Blue or Orange but there are so many that it has to include some Orange.
