| Has to pass a driving test with a degree of complex math to drive an ATV |
Why would anyone think that's a good idea? |
| Duterte is looking for a job… |
It’s brilliant. You and your lawnmower come to DC to joyride. Police can’t chase you. No probs. You go home, a letter arrives a few days later with a $500 fine; next offense $1000, next $2000 you get the picture… You find a new hobby or terrorize your local hickville |
| We use acoustic camera Money to hire more cops |
| Or Duterte |
People don't come to DC to joyride lawnmowers. We can't enforce these tickets on non-residents. There's lots of practical reasons, such as secondary background noise, why false positives would be prolific. In the end it just punishes DC residents. |
|
So ppl in DC ride their lawnmowers in traffic? They don’t stay in their yards and mow their lawns?
Why are unregistered vehicles with minors driving them allowed to break traffic laws on roads? |
Ask the police. As you likely know, ATVs and Dirt Bikes are not allowed to be registered in DC and aren't street legal. |
|
It used to be that people who wanted peace and quiet would move to the country.
What’s with all this NIMBYsim? |
Having just looked this up. There's a loophole for dirt bikes with engines less than 50cc or manual transmissions. |
| The answer here is obvious. Just get the kids all electric dirt bikes and ATVs. |
Love it! People who intentionally cut off their mufflers and race around quiet neighborhoods at 2am should pay a hefty fine. |
Why not just put in place policy incentives to replace these two-stroke ICE vehicles with quiet, electric vehicles? Seems like a much better and progressive policy approach that will have added climate benefits. |
There's no way to incentivize that. It seems a lot easier to just fix the law by removing the engine size requirement. |
