By this position in the previous post, I mean Wootton.

She was promoted to Consulting Principal - she will mentor new principals and will be terrific at that. Loss for Wootton though for sure.

Wootton has had a principal intern this year. Will he be likely to get the permanent job, assuming he's interested?

It's unlikely. That means they're a brand new principal. They probably wouldnt start in high school. But the fact that she supervised an intern is no doubt part of why she got the job supervising new principals. It's something she has done and likes to do.

Lately they have appointed several HS principals that had not been principals elsewhere first. For example, the new-ish principals at Poolesville, Einstein, Rockville, and Northwest were promoted from AP or principal intern positions.

AP is different than principal intern. Who went straight from intern to HS principal?

Principal interns are APs and principal interns in the same year. They are an Assistant principal and principal intern, and fulfill the 6 week internship through the school year (the principal is assigned to another school during that time).

In a similar vein, "acting" principals are AP's who did not get to their internship yet. They are tapped when the hiring window has closed and there is an open principal position. They get extra support from a trainer and have to re-interview for their job at the end of the year.

D'Andrea was appointed principal in the Cheltenham School District this week, just outside of Philadelphia.

The Cheltenham superintendent, Brian Scriven, used to be at MCPS too.

That’s a lot of principal positions opening up in the Whitman cluster. Woodacres, Burning Tree and Carderock principals are all gone now, and one of my son’s teachers at Pyle said the principal there has been looking to leave as well. I don’t know where he’s going or wants to go.

Woodacres is being filled by the assistant principal at Bannockburn, another Whitman cluster elementary school.

Who is going to Carderock? Is it too late to fill the Burning Tree position?

Carderock hasn't been announced yet, but could be at the June 28th board meeting. Burning Tree will take a few more weeks since the position was just posted.

Perhaps Dr. Daman Harris is moving up into a central office role? He's done great work with the BOND Program, aimed at recruiting and retaining Black male educators. Maybe he'll be focusing more on that in a consulting capacity.
