BA.2 surge hitting US in April/May

I read that and hope it'll be the case.

I have my doubts because so many friends are doing European and Caribbean vacations for spring break.

Exactly. If someone died from COVID because they didn't get vaccinated? Not my problem.

"We need to mask to save the hospitals from becoming overburdened" = never happened even at the peaks.

You're so immunocompromised that COVID is a threat even with a vaccine = you need to stay at home. Others masking outside isn't going to save you (and let's be honest - are you really, genuinely, immunocompromised?).

If only I could keep my (yes legitimately immune compromised self) home away from people like you who don't give a sh*t about my health or life. But we immune compromised people have to go to doctor's appointments, as well as take care of other life necessities, like work, and we still have to send our kids to (now mask optional) school. So your plan for us doesn't work so well but thanks for trying.

Honest question…how did you deal with flu season each year before covid?

What an ignorant, evil question. I'm a new poster to this thread. I'll answer. I basically ignored flu season. Then I lost my dad to covid before any vaccines were available. Then my three best friends lost parents.

Most of the rest of us got covid at one point or another, despite vaccines and masks. Some were fine; some got really sick; some still can't smell anything.

So here's my answer to you: The flu and covid are not the same, and you're an absolute ignoramus (that's not really the word I want to use) for insulting the PP like this. And if you don't die of covid, you'll die young of something else because you don't care about medicine or science or taking care of yourself or others in our society. So shut up, stop being so selfish, put on a mask, get your fourth vaccine if you're lucky, and try to contribute something to society instead of sounding like a complete moron.

This is an insane response and you have anger issues that must be affecting other parts of your life.

Also..."Most of the rest of us got covid"...who is most of the rest of us? And why if you all are so careful? And wouldn't this make the argument that masks don't really work all that well then?

It's even a confusing angry rant.

What are you talking about? That response was 100% fire from someone directly impacted by this disease whose father and friends parents died from covid. Sorry it doesn't fit the "let it rip" or "covid is over" message you are pushing, but covid happened and many people died from it so try to deal with reality.

If you think it’s fine to tell someone they are going to die young, you need help.

You’re misunderstanding. Traveling doesn’t matter. BA.2 is already in the US, making up more than 10% of cases. The issue is that we've already had our Omicron surge.

You can probably say this about most viral infections.

This. Show me that this differs from the myriad other infections we acquire as human beings.

+1000

It doesn’t. People need to get a grip.

Eh. The person they addressed that comment to was gaslighting an immunocompromised person, which is a lower blow imho, so in this context ... nah.

Nobody cares anymore. There will constantly be new variants that emerge because we can’t eradicate it.

Yes, I think the point where people drop their masks during a global pandemic is really the BEST time to start lecturing immunocompromised person about how their lower immune system responses are really all in their heads anyway and they should just get out there. That seems like a good idea.

Live and let live. The only reason people care is because they feel like they're being asked to do something. You don't bother them, and they won't bother you. Get boosted, wear a good mask and don't worry about anyone else. When we have vaccines - mask mandates are too infringing.

Don’t care at all about new variants. This is life now. Not wearing a mask ever again.

100% the only reason I pay any attention to the news is bc I have kids who I worry will be impacted by more crazy covid rules. I will not tolerate it. Never again. No closing schools. No mask mandates. No pediatric vaccine mandates. End of discussion.

So was wearing a mask that awful for you? No snark, seriously asking. It just hasn't been a big deal for me and I am genuinely curious to hear what made it so hard for you.

Yes, apparently covid is the only virus that is a threat to the immunocompromised.

NP it’s not hard for me. I don’t mind masking forever at grocery stores. I really don’t care. However, I’m done with masks for my children.
