BA.2 surge hitting US in April/May

Scott Gottlieb on CNBC yesterday said he expects to see a flattening in the drop of daily cases and possibly a short spike in new cases due to BA.2, but unlikely to start a new surge and case declines should resume into the summer.

Yeah, but we're still >1000 deaths/day.

You can probably say this about most viral infections.

Also the majority of people out there have had covid. Just anecdotally everyone I know except for a few people has had covid and I’m unaware of anyone who is still sick. For most people it was a mild cold. Most people read news stories about long covid and ignore. Earlier on during COVID it was easier to get scared since there were more unknowns. But everyone I know is back to normal and recovered from omicron. Even if they hadn’t - don’t know what we can do forever to prevent catching COVID.

This.

Over 90 percent of the human population has been infected with Epstein-Barr (shows up in mono in comes cases) and it's linked to all sorts of other diseases down the road. The vast majority of people never have a problem and a few do.

HPV is similar. Thankfully there is a vaccine now for the strains that cause cancer, but there wasn't in our generation. 80 percent of sexually active people have HPV.

It's called living as a human on this planet.

Thanks for your eminently authoritative statement.

Exactly. If someone died from COVID because they didn't get vaccinated? Not my problem.

"We need to mask to save the hospitals from becoming overburdened" = never happened even at the peaks.

You're so immunocompromised that COVID is a threat even with a vaccine = you need to stay at home. Others masking outside isn't going to save you (and let's be honest - are you really, genuinely, immunocompromised?).

If only I could keep my (yes legitimately immune compromised self) home away from people like you who don't give a sh*t about my health or life. But we immune compromised people have to go to doctor's appointments, as well as take care of other life necessities, like work, and we still have to send our kids to (now mask optional) school. So your plan for us doesn't work so well but thanks for trying.

Honest question…how did you deal with flu season each year before covid?

How did you deal with HIV or STDs before Covid? Did you act like they were like a cold? Did you just deal?

So, you’re suggesting people should wear condoms on their faces to avoid covid. Maybe that would work?

It would work. That's basically what high-filtration masks are. But apparently some of us are too precious to wear them.

Go ahead - wear your high quality mask. No one is trying to stop you. But for people who are already vaxxed and had covid - they can make their own decisions, for example.

Bad, irresponsible ones, apparently.

This. Show me that this differs from the myriad other infections we acquire as human beings.

I really wish we would stop fighting with each other about this!

The consequences of the fear-mongering were staggering, especially for out most vulnerable children.

Some mistakes can be forgiven due to "fog of war" mentality, but they can never be forgotten and allowed to happen again.

You would think, but in this area it seems to be more of a doubling down.

Just wait if the GOP gains control of the senate. Rand Paul is going to be the head of the Senate Health committee and he's already promised investigations.

Keep rolling the dice sister, FAFO how sick you can get.

Not in the least bit worries. Young and in perfect shape. Set PRs both running an lifting with Omicron and didn’t even know I had it until a tinder hookup called to say she was sick and I should take a rapid test.

Gross. So basically you gamble with disease routinely and believe a bunch of mothers should make decisions about our families based on your STD-ridden lifestyle.

NP. I know this is a very risk-averse group, but I just want to say that I had plenty of unprotected sex over the years (I’m now 44) and never once caught an STD. So many people here seem to think you’ll automatically catch something the first time you do it raw, but that simply isn’t the case. Maybe it makes you feel better about the very small, constricted sex lives you’ve led?

Shut up before someone else's college student hears you. Mine brought home a whole host of diseases that needed to be treated after freshman year. Unfortunately, because people like you have dominated the cultural conversation, our kids are happily stewing in each other's foul juices without hearing adults who tell them STD rates are rising dramatically.
