Same. Vaxed, boosted, and I'm hoping to (1) not catch it before an omicron booster is made available to me; or (2) catch it before my next international trip in April. I'm not doing anything to make (1) happen. It's not worth it, and I'm not sure it'll happen before April. (2) is fine with me. I'm sure it'll suck, but whatever.

With the R0 so high, and leaky (though excellent, amazing, and life-saving) vaccines, herd immunity is mathematically impossible. (R0 - 1)/ R0 / VE. Call me an armchair epidemiologist if you want. I get it, most people are stupid, math is hard, and it's easier to lash out at people on the internet than it is to believe the hard truth. In the United States, we won't even get close.

Yes. I’m pp who went to the show. My family and I have done everything we could. We didn’t see family for a year. We got all the vaccinations and boosters. There’s nothing else I can do to protect ourselves except wearing a mask, which doesn’t seem to really be that effective, except to the extent MCPS actually follows through with their guidance that masked people don’t have to quarantine (and now that DS is vaccinated that doesn’t matter anyway). Moco- stop changing the goalposts and let us choose to wear masks or not!

I understand you don't want to wear protective masks. A thin cloth mask is a lot more comfortable than an N95. But if you're really that worried about COVID, and think masks are the solution rather than vaccines, then I would think you'd really want the protection of an N95. Very young kids don't wear masks. Preschoolers often don't wear masks meaningfully. And there is an increasing number of adults dropping masks despite the mandate being in place.

Get some real N95s. They will probably help your anxiety. You'll get used to the discomfort, like health care workers have.

A lot of people are just wondering why MoCo is so high strung about Covid measures compared to its educated, highly liberal neighbors like Arlington and DC who seem to think that they don’t need a mask mandate. Muriel Bowser and the Arlington County government aren’t Ron DeSantis. What makes MoCo residents uniquely susceptible to Covid compared to people in these other jurisdictions? It seems to me and a lot of other Democratic voting MoCo residents that we are being led by a bunch of irrational hypochondriacs.

You just can't go maskless into a grocery store or a pharmacy. I think most residents of DC and Arlington have enough sense to do this, and then don't care what happens in the poorer areas.

In MoCo, a large swath of the county is the poorer area, both white poverty or LMC and POC. There are a million people. A lot of them are living multiple families to a house or apartment and poorly educated and the Trumpers don't have much sense--so would refuse to mask in a logical place like pharmacy. In Bethesda, or the wealthier areas, most people would have enough sense to go to the gym without a mask and wear a mask to get groceries or pick up drugs. Not so in my area of the MoCo, as I even saw during the height of the pandemic.

This is the most classist, racist garbage I’ve seen in this thread. This is why minorities and the working class is moving far away from the Democrats, a party that supposedly represents them.

It makes no logical sense to wear a mask if you don’t have close exposure for someone for a long period of time, like running in a 7-11 to get a coffee at 5 am. It does make sense to wear a mask when you’re having dinner next to another couple that is 5 feet away from you. Yet supposedly educated like you don’t see how ridiculous it is for there to be mask regulations for the former and not the latter.

I just realized that the denominator for the 85% Covid vaccination rate is not "total population eligible for vaccination" but actually overall "total population" and factors in children under 5 years old who can't even get the vaccine.

Based on the latest CDC data, we're already at 87.1% vaccination rate among the total population eligible for vaccination. It's when toddlers are factored in that the rate goes down to 81.7%.

Nah. Ask your dental hygienist. She has been working around unmasked patients for the past year. Her N95 protects her from the unmasked patients spewing their aerosols all over the office.

Anyone see the photos from the Council breakfast where there only put on masks for Instagram after a filling a huge ballroom maskless? (they were eating and we all know covid magically spares anyone stuffing their fat face).

Even the council knows that the very minor benefit of masks (maybe 10 percent) isn’t worth the hassle for the vaccinated and healthy.
