85% vaccine rate isn’t good enough

Talk about moving goal posts. Now 85% won’t be good enough to remove the indoor mask mandate. Elrich wants to extend it. https://mocoshow.com/blog/montgomery-county-executive-marc-elrich-recommends-extending-mask-mandate-and-requiring-vaccine-passports-for-restaurants/?fbclid=IwAR2ZzwjqxMRE3miP-78M3-0V1WT-gz9kKtZWUGIiG3e46cG7jfQ8X714D6w

This is is being blamed on omicron. What’s next? There will always be something else. .

Do you really care though? I mean, I can't keep track of who has what mandate where. I just wear my mask when I go into a store.

ugh. He annoys me so much. Constant state of fear.

This goes counter to what MD state has proposed:

I don’t think I’ll be able to explain my feelings but I care about the broken promises, being misled and a feeling of never ending Covid regulations. They keep dangling the carrot in front of residence. Get your vaccines, get your children vaccinated, get your seniors vaccinated, get your businesses vaccinated, and we do and then they say just kidding. Now we’re going to do something else. That’s what I care about. I think many of us witnessed that if the mask mandate is lifted many people will continue to wear the masks, which is great! Give the people the freedom at this point to choose. We thought most people chose to continue to wear a mask. I’m just sick of the endless hoops.

You call it moving goal posts, I call it revising policies when conditions change. Regardless, the county executive doesn't make the decision; the county council does.

How does the mask mandate affect you, personally?

Ignore his comments. Just wear a mask into whatever retail store you enter. I have been since last year, and will continue to do so for a while. At this stage, it is not even annoying. It just hangs in my car, and another by front door. As for restaurants, I got vaccinated and boostered, and have a photo of my card on my phone. If someone wants to see it, fine. It is not exactly like I do not carry my phone everywhere anyway. Folks need to learn to relax and just do it. What I have clearly leaned is that there are lots of people that I will want to avoid when a real emergency happens. Many folks can handle even these simple things.

As a PP stated, it's moving the goal posts, and it is super annoying.

Covid will never go away. At some point, we have to stop being ruled by fear, and just get on with it.

I hate wearing masks. A store clerk was trying to tell me something, and I could not understand her, especially when they have an accent (not being racist.. my sister has an accent). I find if I can read lips and hear them speak, I can understand them better. Must be tough in classrooms.

I hear you, I do. But since I -- and maybe you- am sometimes in DC, sometimes MoCo, sometimes PG, and sometimes VA, I recognize that even if it were clear in one jurisdiction, it would be different elsewhere. So I have decided to stop paying attention and reclaim a touch of sanity but just wearing the damn things everywhere.

Mostly I just want the requirement lifted in schools.

If everyone had access to the Merck and Pfizer antiviral packs for COVID, this would be over. It's been almost a year since the vaccine was rolled out - a vaccine that was developed in 9 months. When will everyone have access to the COVID treatment medication??? It's almost been 2 years for F sake.

Folks, we are not at "endemic" - we are still at "pandemic."

This. The precautions are still wise and necessary. Reality says its not over if if we're sick of it. We WANT leaders to increase precautions when the situation changes or they get new information. It's hard on everyone these days but this is what it takes to look out for one another and to keep give as many of us as possible the best odds for staying safe.

80% was using "precaution". Now it's 85%. Next month it will be 90%. Then 100%, which we will probably never achieve. The problem with moving goal posts is that you will never hit the goal.

I was just barely, marginally supporting Elrich but after this he lost me. I'm over it.

How are you distinguishing between the two?

+1

Just get vaccinated/boosted and wear your mask indoors at stores, schools, etc.
