85% vaccine rate isn’t good enough

Also, omicron hasn't changed the conditions in Moco. We've been at about 100 per 100,000 for months. Maybe even a year. (the dip in the summer was probably because vaxed people were told not to test)

It's almost been 2 years for F sake.

Right, as if its that simple.

That's what was said about developing the vaccine, but we got it. A vaccine that has to be maintained at a really low freezing temp no less thereby limiting access points.

We are talking 3rd boosters now, and today on TV Pfizer was talking about a 4th booster or stand alone Omicron vaccine. . Sometimes you have to figure you shouldn't make future decisions based on sunk costs. Just because we did the best we could or knew, rolling out the vaccine, doesn't mean it isn't time to redefine our long term strategy, which should not be 3-4 vaccines a year IMO.

No we haven't.

This. The precautions are still wise and necessary. Reality says its not over if if we're sick of it. We WANT leaders to increase precautions when the situation changes or they get new information. It's hard on everyone these days but this is what it takes to look out for one another and to keep give as many of us as possible the best odds for staying safe.

So when does that shift occur from pandemic to endemic?

I feel frustrated as the other poster. When does Moco let this end? Why are kids still wearing masks on the playground at recess? Why do I need to wear a mask if I'm triple vaccinated? What's the point of wearing a mask in a restaurant if I'm pretty much not wearing it at all while eating?

Wearing a mask some of the time while in a restaurant is still better than wearing a mask none of the time while in a restaurant, no?

Really? You think wearing a mask from walking from the door to your table makes any meaningful difference?

The studies show that vaccination, not masks, reduce the spread of covid. I thought Elrich said last week that like 95% of eligible 12 and up were vaccinated. Our rates are low. Our hospitals are open. Why are we living with so much restriction?

The studies also show that masks reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2 (which is the virus. COVID is the disease.) Our rates were almost back up to "high transmission" this weekend.

Covid actnow just sent mean alert of lowered risk level. It is now at medium with 7.9 cases per 100,000. Problem is, neither Maryland nor Montgomery County has posted numbers for 4-6 days and they post zero cases for the last 4 days. Is the lowered risk based on 4 days+ of "zero" new cases?

As long as it takes. No, Larla, we are not there yet.

This is is being blamed on omicron. What’s next? There will always be something else. .

You call it moving goal posts, I call it revising policies when conditions change. Regardless, the county executive doesn't make the decision; the county council does.

How does the mask mandate affect you, personally?

The rest of the country has moved on. Masking is a waste of public willpower. Put the time, money and energy into vax.

With all due respect, most of the rest of the country is famous for its poor judgment. Masking is only difficult if you insist on whining about it.

Ignore his comments. Just wear a mask into whatever retail store you enter. I have been since last year, and will continue to do so for a while. At this stage, it is not even annoying. It just hangs in my car, and another by front door. As for restaurants, I got vaccinated and boostered, and have a photo of my card on my phone. If someone wants to see it, fine. It is not exactly like I do not carry my phone everywhere anyway. Folks need to learn to relax and just do it. What I have clearly leaned is that there are lots of people that I will want to avoid when a real emergency happens. Many folks can handle even these simple things.

As a PP stated, it's moving the goal posts, and it is super annoying.

Covid will never go away. At some point, we have to stop being ruled by fear, and just get on with it.

I hate wearing masks. A store clerk was trying to tell me something, and I could not understand her, especially when they have an accent (not being racist.. my sister has an accent). I find if I can read lips and hear them speak, I can understand them better. Must be tough in classrooms.

How is it moving the goal posts. We've never experienced anything like this. Things are fluid. We need to change as we get more information. What a douche you are.

The Maryland Health Department had a cyber attack over the weekend.

If you don't have fear of covid, you need to get your mental health checked.

Everyone hates wearing masks but if you give covid to that store clerk, she could get very sick or die and then you will help entitled people like you who have to be out shopping and dining in restaurants?

I have a healthy "fear" of covid enough to be vaxxed, but I don't constantly live in fear of it. If you do, then you need to get your head examined. I don't constantly think, "if 80% are vaxxed, I'll be more comfortable not wearing masks. " Then a few weeks later, "If 90% are vaxxed, then I"ll be more comfortable not wearing a mask".

That is living in constant fear.

First it was 80%.
Now it's 85%.
Will they change it to 90% in the future?

Constant state of fear.

Maryland state thinks it's fine to remove masks at 80% vax rate.

Some folks in MoCo just live in a constant state of fear. Mask up if you want to, but some of us are fully vaxxed, including boosters. 80% was the target MoCo set, even with Delta. Omicron is a lot less worse than delta.

For population-level resistance, vaccination rates have to be higher when diseases are more transmissible. That's basic epidemiology.

You sound unhinged. No one is living in a constant state of fear. We are living in a state of uncertainty. I leave my house. I feel safe with my mask on. I don't think about covid that much. I'm boosted. I shop and do everything else. I just use precautions.

Omicron is (probably, preliminarily) less severe than delta, but (definitely) more transmissible.
