Same as they are responsible for off campus sexual assaults that they knew a possibility from in school reports.

MCPS knew that the child was being bullied. They refused to do anything even allowing the victim to transfer to another school to get away from the bullies.

Yes. I would be down with RJ in elementary school. Beyond 5th grade, the kids need more than hugging and talking. Some of the students in HS are practically or are already adults. They need consequences and for some, they don't need to be in the school anymore. They need to be in rehab or jail.

Parents should get the option for RJ, especially if their child is the victim. Lets be real, just talking and hugging isn't going to stop a bully. I would not agree to RJ for my kids, especially if I wasn't there.

+1 The problem is the corporate culture throughout MCPS and the BOE that they ignore problems that students and parents report to them. Until this corporate culture changes - and it starts with an independent BOE members not Apple Ballot puppets.

There’s no bullying occurring until a student is shot and a student is murdered. This response is echoed by MCPS Principals, Directors, Associate Superintendents, the Superintendent, any other MCPS Central Office staff involved with a case, and the BOE. It’s only after severe and permanent harm is done to a child that they offer up fake platitudes and sympathies.

Yes. Parents need to all be standing up and saying OUR STUDENTS ARE NOT SAFE IN MCPS SCHOOLS. Use your voices and words. Register to vote and use your power at the ballot box.

It takes more than harm to come to students for MCPS to step up. We've had multiple incidents and still nothing from MCPS (or parents).

Dogs are t practical because there aren’t that many trained gun sniffing dogs and they can’t scale that up quickly.

Does anyone know how the metal detectors work in DC with all the electronics kids have now? Everything just goes thru X-ray machine? I’ve talked to courthouse security about the machines and they’ve said it’s more difficult than you think—it’s a lot of training to be able to do effective screening.

They can be but the same name is used to describe guns that have and the serial number removed. Metal detectors would prevent many guns and also knives from being brought in. It also could act as a deterrent. Really surprised they were not brought in right away. It is likely a big part of why DC has never had a shooting in a school. Someone up thread, presumably a MCPS PR Flak trying to absolve the district of responsibility, tried to claim that metal detectors would be impractical, forgetting that DCPS uses them. If it works for Wilson why can’t it work for Magruder or Norwood or Wheaton.

They have been used previously in MCPS to my understanding.

I’m a high school teacher and a parent. I would not approve of RJ for my own children. I want consequences, even if my child is the perpetrator. I’ve seen RJ fail over and over at my school and students openly mock the idea. I once had a student admit he wasn’t afraid of acting out / fighting because he’d only be asked to talk it out.

I care if a child an allergic reaction. What is wrong with you? Parents make kids scared of cops with what they say. If your child behaves, in most situations they don't need to be scare of cops in this area.
