Advanced Academic Programs (AAP)
I missed this post because you'd put your answer inside the quotes, so it wasn't immediately evident that it was an answer. Increasing URM representation is a laudable goal. Quota systems are not. Why are you unwilling to listen to Vern Williams - he's the best STEM educator VA's produced. |
| To everyone in the 11th congressional district who believes in merit-based, race-blind TJ admissions: VOTE for Manga Anantatmula. Spread the word! |
sure, because congress is going to take the time to pass a law to keep a single high school asian |
The headline is click bait but the article itself provides a strong indication that reform is finally coming. |
| ah, realclearinvestigations.com - seems legitimate |
| Interesting read. Diversity-based admissions criteria is inevitable. |

PP, I've posted this question but didn't get an answer, so am writing again in the hopes that you do actually have an answer and possibly just missed the question.
Vern Williams is a colossus in the field, and we have enormous respect for him. Why didn't you take his opinions into account? |

Did you bother to read the article? It presents quite a balanced perspective.
I think we are missing a huge point here. Parents. Only way to improve schools is to help parents. Help them educate their young children, understand the importance of education. Free up their time. Come up with creative solutions. Provide incentives. That's the job of government and society - to lift the disadvantaged. Not by destroying institutions but by helping people achieve. You can also do your own part. My kids went to less competitive, lower income elementary and middle schools. They were among the very few Asian kids in their schools. We didn't complain about kids having to do home work like we saw many other parents do. We tried to help as best as we could. We sacrificed our time and money for our kids. Taking them to sports events, debate competitions. Instead of daily Starbucks, we did math studies. Lived below our means in a small apartment. It has become cool to whine and not do the hard work and look for quick fix solutions. Parents, you have the power. Do the work. And the gap between magnet/gifted and other schools will disappear. Please vote! Don't hate.

+1 Please don't vote down the ticket. We need to ensure local politicians truly represent our interests, and not just assume they will because of their party. |
PP here. I meant vote in the elections tomorrow. Get Trump out please. I agree with you though. We have to be more careful about specific politicians. Can't just vote based on party.

Yes, South Africa tried it and how did it turn out? |
Just in case we needed further confirmation some here support educational apartheid (though you’ve already made that clear). |
Posting this again for your benefit PP - you are obviously active on this thread, so are you are trying very hard not to answer this question? |
| PP - I am very late to this thread apparently. I am also unfamiliar with Vern Williams, but am interested in learning more about his views. Please repost a link or sum up his thoughts. |
