Why is FCPS not following state orders? Let kids choose to wear or not wear mask. My kids will wear their masks. We don’t care if others wear their masks or not.
Why does FCPS continue to defy the will of the people of Virginia? |
Defiance? What exactly? And, is there a law against disrespect? Has disrespect killed 800,000 people in this country? If you're going to make a comparison, you need to pick a different one. Because the ones you have picked are not good ones. |
Because decisions over education are granted to the local school boards in VA and Fairfax county people want to keep their kids in school and want masks. The order violates state law and constitution. |
It's following Virginia law and CDC recommendations. The courts will decide which is correct--the executive order or Virginia law. Over a dozen VA counties are not following Youngkin's executive order. |
I'd be interested how Younkin's orders fly in the face of the FEDERAL disability laws, which apply in schools. Health compromised kids have a right to be protected in public schools. They are not receiving full protection if others are allowed to parade through the halls unmasked, coughing and gagging on their peers. While that also holds true in "normal" times, I admit. A cold is not the same as a various that has mutated at least 3 times in 2 years and killed, over 3 quarters of a million AMericans. |
A anti-mask mandate parent threatened to bring a loaded gun to a school in Page County because the school is upholding the VA law about mask mandates rather than Youngkin's executive orders. Maybe the anti-maskers want to cool down and wait for the courts to decide whether VA law or governor's executive orders take precedence here? Do you really want to be on the side of people threatening violence at schools? |
Noone is suggesting that kids should wear masks in school forever. But how about waiting until this omicron wave is over before sending your kids to school unmasked? What's another few weeks going to matter? |
We’ve been hearing this “it’s just 3 weeks” line for 2 years! CDC director said masks don’t protect. Let people choice to wear — or not wear— a mask! It’s not Federal law. |
I saw that. People have lost their minds. https://www.newsweek.com/video-shows-irate-mom-threatening-school-board-guns-over-mask-mandates-1671691?amp=1 |
When was coughing and hacking up phlegm on your fellow students ever a policy? You guys are so dramatic. And if my child was so fragile that an unrestricted puff of air or a stray droplet were likely to kill them I would not risk their lives in public school. They would be home. Covid panic is over. |
It’s following state law, passed by the legislature and signed by Northam (SB 1303) and federal law regarding access to education for students with disability. Which Youngkin can’t just unilaterally revoke. I’d add— but you know that. But, you seem somewhat dim. So, maybe watch some Schoolhouse Rock? |
This has been the basis for federal courts upholding mask mandates in FL, TX, TN, etc. So Youngkin’s EO violates state and federal law. I’m bringing to think he has crappy legal counsel and a weak grasp on government 101. |
+1. Anti-maskers threatening to go full on domestic terrorists and shoot us schools. Charming. And not at all surprising. |
Please— link to the “CDC director” saying “masks don’t protect”. This should be good. |
Not accurate account of CDC director statement. It's Virginia Law. It's CDC recommendations. It's over when people stop getting sick and hospitalized at high rates. No one can fully assure when that is of if and when there will be another variant. I'm in support of metrics for assess when or when not we should use different public health measures (e.g., I supported the decision in the summer when numbers were low that masks were not needed among vaccinated people and I support the decision now that they are--because the numbers of cases and hospitalizations are very high). People don't get to choose whether or not to wear a seatbelt--it's the law because it protects them and protects society from the burden of having to provide them healthcare in accidents. Protective actions that slow transmission of contagious disease are even more understandable. |
