https://nextdoor.com/p/PzM77QsckZnp?utm_source=share&extras=NTA4MDAyMDg%3D My daughter is currently a student at Twinbrook Elementary School. She was sexually abused on the playground at recess. We met with the principal and guidance counselor and my daughter gave details about the abuse and even the name of the abuser. The principal and guidance counselor did not seem to be taking the situation seriously, so my family and I called the police to be present with us and open an investigation. Once the officer showed up, the principal and guidance counselor refused to speak with us any further and locked themselves in the office stating they had "meetings" for the rest of the day. We sat with the officer and security guard giving our statement, letting our daughter give her statement, and open a full investigation. We currently have a open investigation with the police, special victims unit, and a local hospital. The school has only stated that they would "follow up" but no action has been taken. I am writing this because my daughter named another victim who was possibly abused as well, and her family has yet to be notified. If you know any families with kids that go to Twinbrook Elementary please let them know that there was an attempted rape of a five year old during recess under the school's care and they are doing nothing about it except seemingly trying to cover the situation up. We of course pulled our daughter out of the school, obtained a lawyer and contacted a local news reporter. |
The principal released a letter https://parentscoalitionmc.blogspot.com/2023/11/after-parent-uses-nextdoor-to-notify.html?m=1 |

Parents coalition has the principal email which came after the post on NextDoor. The description of the student beinf "prompted" by another student is wacky. |

I am sadly not surprised. Reading data of assaults for MCPS, most are in high schools, but some are in middle schools, and occasionally it happens in elementary school.
Additionally, MCPS has a horrible record for protecting victims of assaults, be they staff or student. There was that notorious brooming case in a locker room at Damascus high school, involving a perpetrator with a long record of violence, and the many years where MCPS allowed a Principal to sexually harass his female staff and then promoted him, despite formal and informal complaints. If your child is victim of a crime, please call police immediately. MCPS will not help you. The Principal will lock themselves in their office to call the army of MCPS lawyers. And I hope you have money, because MCPS spends a fortune on their lawyers. |
| Principal letter doesn't list contact police as the first option when an assault occurs? Ridiculous. |
Victim blaming |
MCPS does not have the interest of the victim at heart. They're strictly a CYA operation. |
That was my first thought but my second thought was a sociopath found a special needs kid and prompted them to violate the victim. The fact that the letter leaves it open to victim blaming is outrageous |
Agree. The parent did the right thing by involving the police. MCPS is known to simply sweep things under the rug as much as possible, especially when it comes to sexual assault allegations. |
| Not surprising based off the lack of supervision and oversight. Parent needs to lawyer up and get that kid out of that school but please don’t post names here as then it identifies the child. |
| The alleged perp was another ES student? |
| Good luck OP, you did the right thing. |
Seems to have been another student and unclear if there was a second student involved |
Yes |
This. The names should be taken off. |
