DS goes to a jesuit HS that sends a lot of kids to Georgetown (10+) and some to ND. Based on scores and stats and leadership, counselor says DS should have no problem getting into either.
Tip top schools very much a low target as unhooked. Will try but probably prudent to lean into the Catholic thing (restricted early action at ND would mean no ED at another school) DS asks us (parents) which is better/which do we think he'd like/which we can afford, etc. We can afford either. Anyone have thoughts on the two? ND always seems super bro-ish to me, and I'm tempted to not push it by visiting right now etc .. but .. have to admit the alumni do love their experience. And my feelings are rooted in a 90s ND DS leans humanities major who lately wonders if getting business degree more sensible. I say, study what you want but that's where he is rn. |

Queue Georgetown hater in 3, 2, 1…..

| ND is still bro-ish, but bros love it. I think it's a good university experience w sports and vibe. I wouldnt' send a girl there though |
No guarantee for anyone for these two schools. One thing to keep in mind is that it's not easy or almost impossible to switch into business later. Maybe little easier at GT but don't count on it. |
| Have you taken your kid to visit both schools? |
| ND has some merit. Which I don't think Georgetown has. They gave us the worst FA package of all colleges over two kids. |
My daughter is a Sophomore and it was a great choice. |
| does GDS really sent 10+ kids to GT? |
No merit at Georgetown. Need-based aid only. |
GDS isn’t a Jesuit school. |
| Can’t you apply REA to both? Although if the college office at Prep (I assume) is telling you to pick one, listen to them. |
Can you elaborate? |

Are you having to choose which to apply to? Why not visit both, apply to both if still undecided, and see what happens?
I also think there are some easy ways to figure out which is the better fit without really even thinking to hard about the schools themselves. ND is in a small town/remote location, GT is in DC. Which environment is more appealing for your DS? Also assuming you are in the DMV, would he benefit from being further away or is there appeal to going to school locally? And so on. I personally have a strong preference for GT over ND, but I wouldn't want to spend 4 years in South Bend, Indiana, or its weather, and would worry that the campus culture could be insular. But I think that some people are the opposite -- ND kind of embodies a very specific experience of college on a picturesque campus with a lot of rahrah school spirit and the social scene revolving around football games and everyone going to the same bars. Your DS just has to know himself a bit and think about which school better suits his personality and his image for what college will be like. |

Visit both, then decide.
Notre Dame has a hotel right on campus--the Morris Inn. Both Georgetown & ND are great schools, but Georgetown places better for IB (investment banking). ND campus culture is big on sports. |
