One far right wing source from 2010. I think it’s safe to say that the claim that Democrats oppose E-verify is - and I’ll put this charitably - invented. Seems the GOP really wants high illegal immigration, both to fill their donors’ pockets and to keep you angry and riled up. |
To be fair, there are some dems who oppose eVerify, but mostly out of equity concerns. The GOP who oppose it are because their benefactors want to continue to employ the undocumented workers. |
I am a DP, and what is untrue about that the PP said? Kids of illegals are citizens by birth and therefore eligible for benefits. Any benefit resource days as much. Food stamps are received as a grocery debit card. It’s about $100-200 per person per month, so 3-4 kids and the family doesn’t need to worry about groceries. Okay maybe it does but it’s a nice subsidy still. Throw in free lunches and food banks and you don’t need to worry about what’s for dinner. It’s not the most nutritious food but it’s savory. Next, all the little add ons. Camp scholarships, pandemic EBT money (4 payouts of about $300 per child in my state), free aftercare, clothing drives, gift cards for holidays from local charities. All of this is accessible if you have a legal kid, some of it even if the kid is illegal. Churches, charities, utility subsidies, emergency rent subsidies, you name it. I know this first hand as I have been involved in this area since covid. Maybe it’s just one blue state but I am pretty sure Maryland isn’t that far behind. Free healthcare! Yes all of it isn’t top notch and you would never choose to live like that but remember where they came from. |
DP. It doesn’t matter. Benefits are shared by the whole family. |
They pay rent in cash and rent many to a house. How is this for property tax when 20 people are using a house built for 4? What personal property taxes? A couple hundred per year for their old jalopy? That sure pays for the all the benefits and more. And no they don’t spend “most” of their income in local economy. As I said rent is paid in cash, food is paid for by the kids’ ebt cards, clothes are from donation bins, the only thing that is really a splurge is amusement park vacations (there’s a special affinity for those). |
You got it all wrong. “We” need to change the laws that obligate us to adjudicate the claims of anyone who comes in and claims they are asylum seekers. Yes to eVerify and let’s shut up about equity concerns already. Technology at the border? Only to keep people out better. Amnesty for those already here? No way. |
They are working only because this administration is creating a way to claim they are "legal." They don't like the optics of hoards of migrants swimming across or walking across our unsecured border. This administration continues to admit millions of migrants into our country. It is their goal. The question is.... why? |
NP. My single issue is human rights. Which are being trampled right now with trying to curtail voting rights, among many, many others affecting POC and LGBTQ. |
Undocumetned people try to stay OUT of the system. What you are describing if right wing fiction. |
Millions, LOL. No, again, right wing fantasy. |
For the last several years, every few months when the distraction was needed, the right was flooded with "hordes" and "masses" at the border. NOw they are gone, so you have to find another justification or fantasy to complain about. Face it, this administration is solving problems and the right has to grasp at straws to find something, anything, to complain about. |
You guys have the most incoherent hatred I have ever heard of. At least get your stories straight. Also please give all due credit to Biden for dropping the number of border crossings. Something tells me you won’t be clicking through and reading that article though. |
Democrat “open border” policies have skyrocketed migration, fentanyl and child sex trafficking. The numbers hardly scratch the surface. |
