I’ve been drinking too much for about 3 or 4 years. I now have to stop due to pretty bad GI issues that I’m fairly certain were caused by drinking.
It’s just so boring! I know I need to pickup some hobbies, but how long does this last? I’ve been trying to cut back, with varying success for about a year. I have a terrible attitude about quitting when I don’t want to quit. Anyone who’s BTDT have any idea how long this lasts? I’ve been mostly alcohol-free for more than 2 weeks. |

Good for you ... it's not easy!
Times when I don't drink, I try to take advantage of the extra hours. If I'm drinking, I rarely do anything after dinner. If I'm not drinking, I might go for a long walk, do a Target run, go to the library, etc. |
That just confirms you are an alcoholic. |

Agree your GI issues are likely alcohol related. I wish someone had told my mom that five years ago.
I like seltzer water with fresh lime. Or water with lime. More than just one wedge, a good pour of lime juice. You could also try gummies. Then you won't be bored. |
Thanks, Captain Obvious. |
Nonsense. Go diagnose people elsewhere. - not OP |
+100000 Life's boring without booze? Seriously? I think you should probably go to AA ASAP. |
carbonated beverages probably aren't great for an already irritated gi tract |
OP already stopped drinking. AA will only add additional boredom. |
Two posts in and some loser is trying to derail the thread with their own judgement. Do you feel better for getting that off your chest? OP - proud of you, it's really hard! What do you like to do in your free time? Maybe we can brainstorm some suggestions for you. One of my good friends is 10+ years and is a world traveler to really interesting places. In her free time when she's home, she runs a travel IG and plan for her next adventure. She met her spouse at Toastmasters! |
| I starting drinking heavily by age 15. It’s a progressive thing so you can imagine how I was doing by my 40’s. Nothing truly stuck until I changed my mindset about alcohol and nothing changed my mindset until I read (and re-read) This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. |
| Hostile responses to something obvious that, even OP acknowledged it. |
