As someone who just did this - I totally agree!!

+2. Keep sticking to it and know that it feels hard and boring now but this feeling does not last!

We quit for nearly 4 months early this year. It was still boring past the first month. Just being honest.

Besides not drinking for four months, what else did you change in your life? Did you try new things, meet new people? volunteer etc?

It’s just so boring! I know I need to pickup some hobbies, but how long does this last? I’ve been trying to cut back, with varying success for about a year. I have a terrible attitude about quitting when I don’t want to quit.

Anyone who’s BTDT have any idea how long this lasts? I’ve been mostly alcohol-free for more than 2 weeks.

I'll echo this. Quitting is so easy. Husband and I do it for weeks and sometimes months at a time. It is just pretty boring is all. And we personally don't feel any better. I honestly think people are exaggerating and lying when they act like it is life-changing and you feel *so* different with a "clear mind."

I think there is a spectrum of usage and just because you like alcohol doesn't make you an alcoholic. Or maybe it does, but so what? Many of us are like this, we drink a glass of wine or beer every day then think oh maybe we need to stop drinking. We stop easily enough for weeks and months and there's probably some health benefits but we can't tell, we just think life is less boring with an adult beverage.

OP, I recommend sleeping a lot more. Alcohol messes up your sleep, even if you get enough hours. And alcohol also gives you energy, so you will feel lower and more tired when you first remove it. Once you have eliminated your sleep deficit, though, you will have more energy to think of and do things that aren’t boring.

What makes it easier to quit is focusing on all of the low class propaganda pushing alcohol on the masses. The commercials for light beer are so trashy. Rappers and washed up rock stars pushing booze. Plus alcohol forced into scenes in movies and shows ex Mad Men. It all seems to be targeting idiots. And clearly it works on simple proles. I’d like to think I’m above that.

Way to make a big healthy decision! Wishing you luck OP - and anyone else on this path!

People in mourning who find themselves all alone, like OP, can be bored too. Have some empathy.

I also had to massively cut down on drinking because of GI issues. I like gummies (THC) on Friday or Saturday nights when hanging out with my husband.
