Of course I have kids, why would I be here if I didn't have kids. I have kids, I believe my home value will not change if we are rezoned from Oakton to Skyview. I am not racist. |
Those are two different things. You don’t have to be racist to understand that school assignments affect suburban real estate values. |
Not really. That is mainly only in bottom tier schools but even then, there are $1+ million homes zoned to Herndon. Do you think Skyview will be a bottom tier school? |
A lot of people have been saying that Skyview will be on par with Chantilly, and the homes around Chantilly are pretty much the same as the homes in Franklin Farm and the surrounding area. Home values in places like Chantilly Highlands and those zoned to Floris are pretty much the same as Franklin Farm and the surrounding areas, too (because they ARE the surrounding areas). Even Floris houses zoned to Westfield and South Lakes are $1M+ homes. |
Skyview will be on par with Chantilly What? Who told you that? |
No, but the $1+ million home zoned to either Chantilly or Herndon would sell for more if zoned for Langley. You'd have to have your head buried deep in the sand to pretend otherwise. |
Real estate is expensive here. A million dollar home is only slightly over the average. Doesn't mean the schools are good or that houses zoned to a good school don't sell for more. |
Even IF that was true (and its impossible to know given all the factors that go into a home value), how is that relevant to a school system making administrative decisions on school boundaries? Do you think you were always guaranteed to be zoned to a certain school? |
No, but I don't pretend that you won't pay a premium for a higher-achieving school. It's also no surprise that people would prefer not to lose equity in their homes. |
| Just drove around Skyview for the first time today. There doesn't appear to be much athletic space or parking. I saw also saw no baseball fields, softball fields, or tennis courts. Stadium would need a major expansion that would eat into the already limited parking. Not sure how this would all work. Has FCPS ever released any plans for how they would build/setup these facilities? Might help people get on board if they knew what the plans were. |
There is plenty of space. Did you include the adjoining fields at Carson? You know the ones that can be shared? Be sure and check out the parking at Chantilly while you are at it. FWIW, have you ever seen Chantilly's fields? Those kids have been and continue to practice off site for years. |
For every person paying a premium for the Oakton name, there's another passing entirely due to not wanting to deal with the long distance. I predict there would be no difference in home values. |
| Carson has a baseball field. |
You can “predict” whatever you want, just like your predictions that Skyview will be on par with Chantilly. It doesn’t mean they aren’t exercises in wishful thinking. |
