FCPS Skyview Boundary Scenario 1/2/3

Anonymous
It is the whole County residence's best interest to united to advocate to stay where we bought our house at.

Remember we as parents of fcps students share the same interest for our own kids, you do not share anything in common with people trying to move other people's kids.

Yesterday was Langley and McLean.

Today is Oakton and Chantilly and Centreville.

Who will be next?

They will find another targeted kids to move next. Would that be you?

It seems like the loudest, most-well connected voices are getting their way with the current ridiculous process. If FCPS wants us all to "get a vote" on the boundaries, set up a vote. If they don't want to do that, then make a decision using your so called expertise and judgment and move us all on.

You keep saying that FCPS shouldn’t listen to families, and we keep telling you how absolutely absurd that is. Sounds like you just don’t want to put in the effort that others do to advocate for your own kids.

Feedback is one thing. But, it should be based on facts and not emotion.
RIO's facts are "I want." Everyone wants stability and a good school. Not just RIO. Everyone wants good property values. There is no reason to think property values will drop.

I've not seen one concrete reason why Crossfield should not go to Skyview. Not one. Oakton is at capacity and there are currently well over 50 new construction homes in the boundary--and many more to come. It is puzzling why the data was not included in the presentation last month.

The new schools will have sports. VHSL sports.
The new school will have challenging AP classes and electives.
The new school will save money on transportation.
The new school will save time on commute--better quality of life.
The new school will be a community school. Crossfield families shop in the Skyview area. The children play sports in the Skyview area.

Oakton parents works hard and paid for high price for their property.

You are saying it is fair to move other people's kids without concrete reason? What benefit bring you by moving other people' kids?

Oakton parents do not shop in Skyview area.

Ask Chantilly parents, ask Mclean Parents, ask Great Falls parents, ask Centreville parents, they will tell you the same reason why they need to stay.

The only people who want to go to Kyview is because the see their house value will increase a lot by rezoned to Skyview.

I would say it is fair for you to give up your home so other people can live in your home and you should work hard to support them!

What a dumb post. Oakton parents work hard to buy their house? Sheesh.
I’ve got news for you. Pretty much all parents are working hard and doing the best they can to buy a house in the best neighborhood they can afford. Oakton parents are not unique whatsoever. Except maybe stupider if they think paying all that money for a house is going to result in a better outcome for their kid.

Go visit the college forum and you’ll see that it’s a wash. Oakton is an incredibly competitive high school. It is harder for kids to stand out or make sports teams. As an example, it is easier to get into UVA from South Lakes compared to Oakton. I’m not sure all of the hustle is worth it.

You are welcome to stay where you bought your house. FCPS has NEVER guaranteed boundaries though.

From the current boundary locator: "FCPS provides no guarantee that any residential address will continually be served by the same elementary, middle, and/or high school(s) or AAP center(s)."

More people are moving out of Fairfax than are moving in, and the numbers are big. That number will keep growthing if fcps school sink.

Why would buying a beautiful new school building make a school system "sink"? You are making so little sense I wonder if there's something mentally wrong with you.

Are you a troll? Nothing you post makes any logical sense whatsoever.

Do you not understand how public school systems work? Addresses are rezoned from time to time. There are no guarantees that your house will stay zoned for Oakton.

Sorry, how is this relevant? You buy a house, not permanent access to a particular school.

DP

It's totally relevant. Some people buy into a community for access to those schools.
Then will then fight to the last tooth to keep it. See Langley and McLean.

Why would you be surprised by this?

It should NOT be a factor in making sensible school boundaries. People's personal finances are not everyone else's concern.

DP. I really wish you understood how taxes work. You’re dragging the whole school system down with your faulty logic.

For the four ES that will for sure be rezoned to Skyview, it is in your best interest for you to not get any other ES involved in the rezoning to Skyview or moving around backfill.

So all the Oakton, Chantilly and Centreville families can stay at the county and continue to pay for the afterschool/special program activities Carson kids and Skyview kids can enjoy.

Again, this world salad makes no sense.

DP. Families are absolutely not catered to in this same manner elsewhere in the country when there are boundary changes. The parents here act like spoiled, entitled toddlers.

Boundary changes are a big deal everywhere. The difference is that in most school districts it’s the equivalent of a parent telling their three kids they are going to their grandparents for vacation. In Fairfax it’s telling them they may go to Disney, or they may go to Paris, or maybe they’ll do a staycation, and asking them months in advance which they prefer. And then acting surprised when the kids bicker with each other about what they prefer.

Navy mom is back!!! This isn't even about you.

Navy isn’t in any danger of being sent to Skyview. You sound dumb.

Dumb is the person who didn't understand what I was saying, LOL!

Dp. And yet you can't put one together?

Another DP - I think the point is that petitions are stupid. I don't do petitions. I wouldn't sign one either way, especially not a change.org petition.

Agree. Everyone "advocating" for their own kids results in the loudest voices being catered to and bad decisions, not decisions *in the best interest of the school system as a whole*.

Are you sure? What if all those people leave the County? Who will be left to pay for the school system?

Where are they going to go, PP? Honestly, this threat is just absurd. A handful of people might move to Loudoun or send their kids to private school, but not enough to make any sort of difference. New people will move in.

I just think it's funny that so many people think that the value of their house is based on the high school it's zoned to. There are $2 Million houses zoned to crappy high schools, it's location based. This area is close to Reston where there are a lot of jobs and an easy commute to Tysons, where there are also a lot of jobs. Home values are going to keep going up, not because of the high school they are zoned to, but because this is a high demand area due to high paying jobs within an easy commute.
