Every thing FCPS says makes a bigger mess and confuses people more.
You can see from the text pp posted that they aren't making any promises. When they come out with a map that inevitably moves some walkers to bus riders, people will scream. They need to stop making one-off promises to specific areas and talking out of both sides of their mouth. |
That is correct ding dong. Both can be true. They won’t be moving walkers so those feeders can relax. The new maps will probably be a lot more conservative. |
| Where did they say they weren't moving walkers? |
They didn't put that in writing anywhere. Maybe at a meeting? |
| Oh please, if they actually cared about equity they would have gotten rid of IB and put AP in every HS during the last boundary adjustment. |
Maybe, but the nonsense in western Fairfax stems from people not wanting to attend two AP schools - Herndon and Westfield. Buying KAA when there were 600 empty seats at Herndon was stupid, and now you’ve got all these people arguing that someone else - and not them - should get moved to Westfield. |
You don’t want them redistricting to fill Herndon because those moves are coming from Langley and South Lakes, not Westfield or Chantilly or Oakton. Skyview is closer to McNair and Coates than Herndon. And Herndon would have 200 or so more kids if SLHS was AP because the Herndon kids wouldn’t be able to pupil place to SLHS. Which means that 600 seat gap becomes 400 and the move of the Langley kids takes up most of that 400 seat gap. |
Yet we have 100 pages arguing which feeder is going to be moved. |
| They never put in writing that they aren't moving walkers. Sorry folks. They are very weaselly with the wording. |
LOL! I guess Centreville mom would be shocked if she knew that Lee's Corner has a Fairfax address. |
None of Lees Corner is an official walker to Chantilly. While a lot of people do walk, they are technically kids who ride buses because of crossing route 50. So of the arguments that Lees Corner had, that one was not a good one. |
You must live in a total fantasy land. They aren't getting rid of IB nor are they moving Langley kids to Herndon. They are spending hundreds of millions on Skyview to avoid moving Westfield kids to Herndon, and in return they still end up with parents fighting over who gets moved to Westfield to backfill it. If they were going for a Kumbaya moment, it was fleeting. |
Funny. They keep claiming that the Skyview kids should not have left Westfield. Now they are claiming they should go to Herndon. This is why we need Skyview--to have a high school IN the community--not outsourcing the kids to other communities. |
Who exactly is "they"? The reality is that FCPS can't open Skyview as a traditional HS without inconveniencing many families that won't even end up zoned there. |
Moving the 20171 kids from Westfield to Herndon solves nothing. They need their own high school. |
