Wow I didn’t realize this was happening. Is DeSantis expecting that sororities and frats dominated by white rich kids to accept the black students? What happens when they inevitably don’t?

It is all horrifying.
I went to UF had had the best time of my life It was very affordable and I was surrounded by amazing professors and students. To have it all decimated so quickly is devastating |
I’m sorry. I make a lot of fun of Florida but I know that there are a lot of good people there, too, and it’s just as much your state - more so, probably. Let’s just say that DeSantis probably got into office with the usual compliment of GOP “support” - and it’s got to be terrible to watch it all go down the tubes, and not because of anything organic, but because Republicans are actively trying to destroy it all. |
This is the legacy of John Roberts. His children and grandchildren will have to carry the burden of apologizing for the man who reenabled Southern segregation. What a terrible legacy. |
This is kind of a "jump" to come to the conclusion that they are going to get rid of Black fraternities and sororities. |
""(b) Promote, support, or maintain any programs or campus activities that violate s. 1000.05(4)(a) or that espouse diversity, equity, and inclusion or Critical Race Theory rhetoric."
The very existence of Black fraternities and sororities espouses diversity, equity, and inclusion. It's important to note that Black students were initially banned from the major primarily white institutions (PWIs) in Florida like the University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Miami, and the University of South Florida, none of which were integrated until the 1960s. Once there, Black students weren't welcome in the white fraternities and sororities though white people have always been welcome in the predominantly Black Greek letter organizations." Every greek house has the same wording in their mission statements as do most service organizations. If wanting inclusion is the bar for being tossed off campus, then there will be no more national organizations of any kind on Florida campuses. |
All Floridians should be upset that he's using their state as a campaign prop. Imagine what will be left behind for the state to deal with after he's gone. |
Likely billions in the lawsuits that the state will need to pay out. The lack of income tax in Florida will need to be eliminated. |
The slow boil of authoritarianism in Florida without protest or greiveance is a blueprint for the GOP US should they take the White House in 2024 or 2028. |
I was not in a sorority in college but had a grandmother who started a Chi Omega chapter. DeSantis seems horribly misguided and a bigot for going after Black fraternities and sororities. He seems to be doubling down on white hegemony. It’s wrong. |
Yeah. Except that will happen when a democrat has to come in and clean up the mess. Like always. |
He is NOT going after them. It is a speculation. Read the bill. |
It’s very clear that the existence of historically black frats and sororities will run afoul of the law, as written. Some Florida legislators are trying to add an amendment to the law to carve out the frats and sororities, but have not been successful yet. So yes, as proposed DeSantis would be eliminating the historically black frats and sororities. The only reason these organizations exist is because racist whites wouldn’t - and largely still do not - accept black students in their Greek orgs. |
Well he’s essentially saying, “where there’s Black people, there’s CRT.” White hegemony move. |
Exactly. “Woke” is a tautology. |
