He is NOT going after them. It is a speculation. Read the bill.

It’s very clear that the existence of historically black frats and sororities will run afoul of the law, as written. Some Florida legislators are trying to add an amendment to the law to carve out the frats and sororities, but have not been successful yet.

So yes, as proposed DeSantis would be eliminating the historically black frats and sororities. The only reason these organizations exist is because racist whites wouldn’t - and largely still do not - accept black students in their Greek orgs.

What is so bad about exclusively Black or exclusively White/Asian/Hispanic fraternities? If people just want to be around their own kind, what harm is there?

So here is the thing - HBCUs and Black fraternities and sororities have never been exclusive. They have NEVER been for only Black people. They exist ONLY because Black folks were not admitted to White colleges/universities/fraternities/sororities. Anyone can attend an HBCU. Anyone can join a historical Black frat/sorority.

Not unless you’re banning all sororities and fraternities.

Read the texts. Historically black frats and sororities advocate for diversity - it’s in their founding documents and charters. They would be banned under the new law from being a beneficiary of any university spending for “advocating” for diversity:

(2) A Florida College System institution, state
282 university, Florida College System institution direct-support
283 organization, or state university direct-support organization
284 may not expend any state or federal funds to promote, support,
285 or maintain any programs or campus activities that:
286 (a) Promote the concepts listed in s. 1000.05(4)(a);
287 (b) Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion;
288 (c) Promote or engage in political or social activism; or
289 (d) Include or espouse, as government speech or expressive
290 activity of the Florida College System institution or state
291 university or its direct-support organization speaking or acting
292 on the Florida College System institution's or state
293 university's behalf, preferential treatment or special benefits
294 to individuals on the basis of race, color, national origin,
295 sex, disability, or religion.

Such organizations could not operate on campus in any capacity because that would benefiting from university spending. No use of conference rooms, hanging a flyer, putting up a table in the quad, etc.

As written, this would ban a lot of campus groups… College Republicans, Young Democrats, any environmental action type clubs, etc etc. But does it actually ban them from existing on campus, or just prohibit them from state/gov funding? There’s a big difference.

"Student fees to support student-led organizations are permitted
298 notwithstanding any speech or expressive activity by such
299 organizations that would otherwise violate this subsection,
300 provided that the public funds must be allocated to student-led
organizations pursuant to written policies or regulations of
302 each Florida College System institution or state university, as
303 applicable"

You can read it yourself, you know.

1850 called and wants their century back.

No, it exacerbates it because of the definitions. When traditionally white and exclusionary organizations are not subject to the law, but the black ones are, it is a problem, well a problem if you are for equity and justice for all people.

But none of them are explicitly subject to the law. It could be interpreted to include all of them or some of them, but we are just speculating right now.

Dunno. You’re probably one of those “all lives matter” professional victims, so how does it feel to go through life pretending to be a victim?

It’s written intentionally vague so as to give political operatives maximum latitude to implement as they see fit. Or to scare private citizens and public citizens into a course of action because they are worried about running afoul of an ambiguously worded law.

This reminds me a lot of the abortion laws in red states that are written so ambiguously that the doctors don’t perform any abortive health care procedures because they don’t want to lose their career or freedom.

DeSantis has nothing to do with this bill.

He went after Disney. Disney is a conservatives right wing company. He will use the power of the state to crush any opposition. DeSantis had the state registered voters and then sent the police to arrest them.

Here we go again.....

Someone has posted a piece from Medium, of all places, with no real news.... but is positing questions and making speculative accusations regardless of the fact that he really has no clue what he is talking about.... (and he has stated total falsehoods in his little piece)
The same DCUMer led with an inflammatory title that is FALSE.......
All the DCUM liberals get their panties in a wad because, you know, DeSantis.....

Do you ever get tired of this?

We saw how the abortion laws worked. "Exceptions" that doctors are too terrified to take.
