Good article in Town and Country on why northern kids are heading south! |
| It’s paywalled and I ain’t payin’. |
| Can't read the article (paywall), but our 3 kids all headed north |
| There’s a very long recent thread on this topic |
| I skimmed this. Did I miss the obvious fact that merit aid is generous? I didn’t see that. My kid knew graduate school was necessary so went for the cheapest undergrad option. One of these schools offered full tuition. Bonus: they stood out to their professors and built important relationships with mentors and for future letters of recommendation. |

I have a kid at UAB.
They offered enough merit to make it more affordable than in state Weather is better Easy to get accepted |
| But for every kid who wants a tan, I am sure there are those who are finding the politics unsupportable (abortion bans, trans oppression, gun culture). |
Tuscaloosa and Auburn are blue dots. And the professors are thrilled to have the diversity in the classroom - it’s better for the university in general. My kid is liberal and content at one of these. Would you turn down a free ride to VT because of Youngkin? |
That was mine and every single one of their friends minus one. |
This. VERY long thread. OP, start with this thread, pls. |
Whoops, wrong link. This is the 62-page thread https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1095248.page |

Undergrad students at the University of Alabama--Tuscaloosa are made up of just 39% state residents (61% non-residents).
University of Georgia leans moderate to liberal. University of South Carolina is a branch of the University of New Jersey system. |
You still have to live with the state laws you got! |
| RE: Northern kids heading south for college. Maybe they just got on the wrong bus ? |
