Puerto Rico in 2 weeks? Stay here or go? Tickets/Air BnB not refundable. Two healthy adults and 2 healthy children ages 7 and 9. We are taking precautions at home (frequent hand washing) but want live our lives. We are not in frequent contact with anyone in the high risk categories but also do not want to inadvertently spread the virus since nobody knows if carriers can be a asymptomatic. So torn... |
Cancelling a trip to DC next week. Just returned from Europe (not a major outbreak country), and cancelling a trip to Italy in April. Probably trying to stay put, more or less, for the next month.
|
I cancelled our PR trip for Sunday, 22:47. Crushed because it was our first trip without kids. |
Portugal in April? |
I think the answer to all these “should I cancel?” posts is yes. No need to post your specific iteration of the same question. |
Guys, thoughts on our Atlanta trip during Spring break? Purchased tickets long time ago. Our hosts might not want us to visit if things keep going on as is..... |
Aunt said just a few cases, mostly in the north. Again that’s the wealthier part of the country so testing may be better. I’m still hopeful about my end of June plans but haven’t bought tix yet. Portuguese are extremely clean people and they’ve been scrubbing everything under the sun to within an inch of its life for a long time. |
Atlanta has its own cases. The Fulton County school system just shut down. |
Are you nuts? They sending National Guard to secure quarantine. |
Reporting from Lisbon (we live here): 41 cases reported so far in all of Portugal. Most are concentrated in the north around Porto, but some confirmed cases in the Algarve too. Events are cancelled in those areas. Many universities have moved to online courses. Government will decide today whether or not to close down all schools early for spring break (potentially this week). Health hotline is apparently overwhelmed, taking over an hour to respond to calls. There has been a run on disposable gloves, face masks & sanitizer throughout Portugal. TAP has cancelled 3500 flights scheduled between now and end of May (roughly 20%). In Lisbon, foot traffic and crowds are very thin. Municipal government here has cancelled cultural events for the next three weeks ending 3 April as well as public facilities like swimming pools. But they have said their hope is to keep museums and cultural attractions open. At least for now! I’d still cancel travel if you have the option - the bigger risk is potentially catching something in transit and having delays and/or surprise quarantines. |
Then he and other CDC officials need to just get over making Trump mad and update the official guidance if that is what they really think. I’m sorry, but you cannot expect everyday Americans to watch press conferences for coded messages. That is unrealistic. |
I honestly don't understand these questions as well. You have no idea who is and who is not infected and when you travel, there are so many unknowns. The CDC of COURSE is going to be conservative because, can you imagine what it would be like if they said "NO TRAVEL ANYWHERE"? Pandemonium The CDC head was very clear yesterday during his Q/A with Congress (paraphrasing) "Travelers are bringing the virus home and seeding their communities. Then they go visit their elderly in nursing homes, and we have a catastrophe like in Washington" That's as clear as it gets. |
The reason it started there (wealthier part of the country) is because of travelers. |
Ok, but at this point it’s community spread in the US so I don’t think travel matters anymore personally. |
I have to travel through a small portion of NY to get to my kid's college. I swear I'm going to freaking hold my breath. Considering adding an hour or two to my trip and re-routing through rural Pennsylvania and straight into CT on 84. Other alternative is gas up well south of NYC, continue through without stopping anywhere in the NJ/NY/CT metro area, and not stop again until I am in and around Hartford. Have to stay overnight and staying with my sister. No way I'm going to a hotel |
