Does anyone know how often we’ve gotten to this point before and they have worked it out? I can’t remember. I know there’s often shutdown talk and short-term CRs - but what about OPM guidance, etc?

Has anyone figured out whether daycare in federal office buildings will be open? Someone upthread recommended looking at the lapse plans and I've reviewed the current and historic plans for the agency where our daycare is housed as well as agencies where the backup daycares are housed - but none of them mention onsite vendors/tenants or daycare.

The admin at daycare just says they dont know.

I'm surprised they don't know. When we were at the State Department daycare, they issued lapse guidance with week by week protocols. First week, business as usual, second-third week was care for children of excepted personnel, etc. I'm sure, like many things, it depends on how they're funded, but it is concerning that the admin at daycare doesn't know at this point.

Ours stays open but YMMV

Don't they realize that shutting down the government does not achieve the outcome they want? Securing the border, cutting the deficit, etc. are not things that will get resolved by shutting down the government and refusing to at least keep things at current levels. This is why we have committees and an appropriations process and that's where those decisions should be deliberated and debated. not at the 11th hour on a CR. these people are insane.

Often, because sometimes some agencies are funded and some are not. I used to work for an agrncy that can be a controversial appropriation. We would often prepare for a shutdown and then have it resolved in the wee hours, or even during the 4 hour orderly shutdown window.

The outcome they want is to be in the news for stabding up to the libs. That's what their constituents want to see.

My agency has specifically stated as of a FAQ just published that security and building services will remain to keep the daycare open but that access to the building will be reduced. I'm thinking they may go back to covid access procedures so non-exempt folks don't get into trouble by badging into the building, but i dunno.

This is probably a by-agency thing. Ours stayed open in 2013, I brought my child in a couple times even though I was not excepted because I had no one to watch her for pre-scheduled medical appointments and I was paying for the daycare either way. Not sure if it remained open in 2018/19 as we no longer had a child enrolled.

My husband's agency in a northern state has declared that every employee is exempted. I don't even know how that's possible. But the plan is to keep on running without any interruption. So what's the point of the shut down?
My guess is that now that it's a given that everyone will ultimately be paid, the Agency Head does not want to give out any money for no work. But it seems absurd. Certainly there are employees who are nonessential.

Don’t *you* understand that they don’t actually want any of the things they are always carping about?

Who is going to bring a lawsuit against him for utilizing workers he is paying for regardless?
