School Boundary changes

No. The plan is to build the new school on Hutchison site. Which elementary schools in Centreville and Chantilly boundaries will be assigned to this new high school? I don’t see any, do you? The board must have planned moving Westfield kids to the new school (direct impact) and then move Chantilly and Centreville kids to Westfield (ripple imact).

Doubt it will end up there. It is a terrible location for a high school. Isn't this based on an FPAC recommendation? Doubt anyone ever looked at the site in person. Besides, it is in a location that would not give relief to the overcrowded schools. And, I suspect the Town of Herndon would want all their kids to stay at Herndon.

(No, they are not, and the email states that no specific boundaries will be discussed).

Gosh. That is just so funny.

It really is hilarious that the Langley pyramid with 1.3% FARMS is right next to a pyramid with 53% FARMS. Really, really funny.

With Elaine Tholen, the DINO from Great Falls, representing both Langley and Herndon, don't expect anything else.

Maybe she noticed that the whiter schools she represents are much less crowded. There is no reason for it other than plain racism/white supremacy.

OMG.

Which high school district does Melanie Meren live in? Does she live near Herndon? I doubt any of the SB members are familiar with the Hutchison site. Backing up to the DTR with no outlet is a real deal breaker, I think.

Completely incorrect.

+100000, it often benefits no one.

I’m getting a good feel now for the mindset that made sure no apartments ended up at Langley.

Elaine Tholen must be so proud that her biggest fans think diversity is bad.

I have no problem with diversity. Langley is an incredibly diverse school, but no one wants to acknowledge that because apparently it’s not the “right” kind of diversity. I *do* have a problem with the social engineering that many of you would love to make happen. Sorry, when you have to bus kids in in order to fulfill certain “diversity” requirements, there is a big problem. Not interested in being a part of your bizarre fantasies.

I think diversity is good. I also think that you cannot legislate or design it. It cannot outweigh logic. Example: taking kids from an underenrolled school and sending them to an overenrolled school simply because of a lack of economic diversity.

Langley's boundary was created many years ago--and, because of its location, included Great Falls.

Also, when the boundaries were first created, Herndon was likely mostly the Town of Herndon. There was no Fairfax County Parkway at that time. Dranesville Road was likely the main artery to Route 7. In many ways, Herndon is still a small town school. There is a real town and it is the center of the community, even though the school is just outside the edge of town.

Herndon has not always had the large FARMS population it does today. A lot of the growth of this population is due to the welcoming environment that the Town of Herndon has made for this population. So, I am guessing that most of the Herndon community is not as concerned about having Great Falls in their school as our PP is. After all, it is Herndon's policies that have encouraged it.

Langley could take some of the apartments in Tysons. Elaine Tholen made sure that didn't happen.

Langley could take some of the apartments in Reston, and cede some of its single-family neighborhoods in Reston and Herndon to South Lakes and Herndon. Tholen's predecessors made sure that didn't happen, either.

When the School Board undertook the South Lakes study, one of the considerations was "the socioeconomic characteristics of school populations," with FCPS staff noting at the time: "There are significant disparities in the socioeconomic characteristics of schools in the study area. The effect of boundary changes on these characteristics should be considered with the goal being to provide balance among the schools to the extent practicable." Neighborhoods zoned to Westfield, Oakton, and Madison that might have preferred to stay put were moved to South Lakes, but Tholen's predecessor made sure Langley was scoped out of the study. Everyone knows they've been treated with kid gloves for decades.

All schools in Fairfax County are diverse anyway.

Langley is 2% FARMS and 7% black and hispanic, Mount Vernon High is 57% Farms and 71% black and hispanic.

So, you’re in favor of busing kids from Mt. Vernon to Langley (or vice-versa) - in the name of “diversity”? Good luck to you on your quest. You will certainly need it.

So, are we going to send Langley kids to Mt Vernon and vice versa?

Exactly. Apparently the PP thinks busing is the way to go. Too funny.

Absolutely. Langley has a decent population of both big law AND lobbyist families. I even heard there are some children of corporate EVPs. A true melting pot.

Apparently you don’t consider kids from every continent in the world to be diverse. Ok then.

There are kids being bussed 14.5 miles to Langley. Surely that is its own form of "social engineering"?

It would benefit from greater diversity but they don't want it.

So you’d prefer they attend the closet school - WHICH IS OVERCROWDED? Please explain how this would help HHS. We’ll wait.

most studies show that poverty is more indicative of a school's outcome, and that concentrated poverty is most indicative. Langley has all kinds of diversity, just absolutely no economic diversity

Langley is in the most wealthy part of the county. No matter how you slice and dice the boundaries, it's still going to have a wealthy student population. Who cares?

You do, apparently.

If the "Marxists" on the School Board (lol) ever did what some of you claim they want to do, your heads would totally explode.

DP. Which is exactly why they’re going to be voted out in the next election. The only people who support their agenda are far-left SJWs. The moderates are done with this idiocy.
