I’m a CPT. And that’s just not true. Two hours is perfectly reasonable for someone serious about their fitness. People who think their little one hour workouts are enough don’t understand what it means to truly train. OP, I agree. He needs to be more sensitive to family responsibilities. Can he work out early in the morning? I’m in the gym by about 5am. I hate it. But I need the time snd early mornings are the easiest time for me.

Yeah, but when you have 2 kids, 1 on the way and your spouse is a doctor, you don’t get to be that serious about your fitness. One hour max and you do it during your slow workday. Or when the kids are asleep.

Yep. I have three kids and am a lawyer. I exercise 20-30 minutes a day. It’s plenty. I fit into my high school jeans.

And right about now those high waisted jeans are back in style. You kept them for 30 years???

High waisted? No. I kept my paper denim and cloth ones with a waist below my belly button. I was a HS senior in 2002. They finally fell apart last year.

You wore jeans from 2002 in 2020? You must have looked cool.

It’s vintage. Think Brittney spears.

I would be livid if my husband just checked out during 2 of the key hours of the day with kids (4-8pm at my house).

I run before my kids get up in the morning. I stretch while they eat their breakfast. I don’t “plan” my runs - I have a bunch of routes and workouts I have created over time and I cycle through those. On weekdays I only run places I can get to on foot. Driving to a specific trail, park or route is a special weekend activity.

My husband rides a stationary bike and does yoga - after the kids are in bed. Weekend bike rides happen when I am with the kids at sports or when we take the kids to my parents’

Wow third child as a fellow??

We had our first child when DH was a resident and a second when DH was a fellow. Those were some tough years.

The female physicians we know had family help or the husband really stepped up. Sounds like you have neither. I would have waited to have the third child but I guess it is too late now. I hope your DH steps up when the baby is born.

Yeah, OP spend the money and drop the resentment.
Good money spent for yourself, your husband, your family. If this continues, it'll get worse and divorce will cost a LOT more!

Your feeling is totally understandable. Hire cleaner, baby sitter, go date nights and go run with your husband after 3rd baby arrives. Get into a good place now, win-win!
Also, maybe your hormone is at play, but you need to stand back and not let this go further.
Best of luck.

What kind of a loser wears old jeans like that? Buy new clothes lawyer lady.

Dude old jeans that have been washed a million times are so comfortable. And if they still look good why not?! My point was that when I was younger I’d spend 1-2 hours at the gym because I’d go with friends and there was social time too. But now I have kids and a demanding job — things I chose so I don’t also get a long fitness routine. I take about 30 min to myself to do the peloton and strength and that’s plenty to keep in shape if you work hard enough and don’t eat complete trash.

Take it from a guy who works out a lot, he's not cheating.

Take it from the same guy that cheated, I workout a lot too, but not two hours. Maybe, just maybe, 30-45 minutes of weights and an hour of cardio. But no way on this earth, two hours of weights. If he is, he’s wasting a lot of time between sets. You should know that Mr. Olympia.

I think OP has made it pretty clear that her DH is wasting a bunch of time in this process. Charging the GPS, planning the route. Those are the procrastination techniques of someone who likes having run but isn't super excited to get out there before the run. Then the cool down and stretch. These are super familiar to me - but my kids are 15 and 17 and nobody much gives a shit what I do with my time anymore.

Yeah. Cheater dude not only has a problem with integrity but also reading comprehension. The whole thing takes two hours. The planning, the run, and then the stretching in the cool down. But he’s only gone for 30 to 40 minutes.

But also, a two hour workout isn’t crazy. If you’re training for strength, Rest between sets should be 4-6 minutes. So a set of deadlifts or squats can take 30 minutes

I’ve been a CPT and it’s insane to workout 2 hours a day. People can absolutely get results on 1 hour, or even less.

My mentor, who was in amazing shape and was former Spec Ops, would always tell people who worked out that much “if fitness is your life, we need to work on getting you a more fulfilling life”.

Honestly, saying you're a CPT isn't that impressive. I can go get certified today. Combine that with the number of times I've seen CPTs giving very bad fitness advice, the word "certified" has lost its meaning here
