Any word on the new NVSL rules for the summer?

Do you know anyone who is?

If I know people still wearing masks while vaccinated, then yes.

Masks are still required many places, and general mandates were just dropped. Continuing to mask right now doesn’t mean that someone intends to “forever.”

Where are masks still required outside?

Aren’t we jumping the gun? They haven’t sent out any update yet.

It isn’t out officially but they’ve already met, made the decision and reps have been told.

I’m a team rep and haven’t heard or read any updates. Where did other reps hear? Email? Division coordinator?

Any news about individual all-stars, all-star relays, Divisionals...?

Apparently All-Star Relays were nixed. Any other meets from what you’ve heard?

Ugh. So much for a “normal” summer.

This is the strangest thread. My kids have been masking on deck for months with no complaints. Yes, it might get a little damp; it has worked. I don’t mind masking on deck and I don’t mind doing it for hours. I am vaccinated. I care about unvaccinated kids.

I know of at least a handful of breakthrough cases. Masking is just not a big deal and it gives my family (two high risk adults, two unvaccinated kids) peace of mind. I really do not understand the hysteria over it.

The calendar on the NVSL website right now just has the 5 dual meets, nothing else. Hopefully that's not final.

Breakthrough cases will happen particularly with J&J but they won’t have serious outcomes (it might be a cold) and studies are showing most are asymptomatic AND more importantly not shedding the virus in a meaningful way to pass to others. So vaccinated individuals masking is silly unless you plan to do it forever because the flu is more dangerous to you currently.

Unvaccinated children should mask indoors and in close prolonged contact with others. But keep in mind that the flu is far more dangerous to them and our population didn’t care if they got sick and would send them to places sick.

Nothing is final yet. Talk to your reps. They are not sure if they can do all-star relays because of deck spacing. The NVSL board thought if we can’t do All-Star relays they would also cancel divisional relays. People need to speak up. The small board is deciding all these things without the division coordinators talking to their team reps. At minimum, it should be decided division by division of you have a host pool that is big enough and willing to host divisional relays.

Because it does not follow science to mandate masks outside. The risk of transmission is extremely low.

We are talking about outdoors, where transmission is mathematically nearly zero. Long meets in the heat. You are talking about indoors. See the difference?

If you personally aren’t comfortable with reasonable requirements (and masks outdoors at a swim meet are unreasonable and pointless), then you need to personally choose not to participate.

Exactly.

I reject this entirely.

Yes, outdoor transmission is low. Outdoor transmission on pool decks 6 inches from each other is not what those studies are based upon. Close contact but outdoors is still close contact.

Close contact has to be for a prolonged time with the same person. Adults on deck are not next to swimmers for more than 15 minutes. And if you reject this, than don’t participate. Or you and your child can wear a mask.
