This is the strangest thread. My kids have been masking on deck for months with no complaints. Yes, it might get a little damp; it has worked. I don’t mind masking on deck and I don’t mind doing it for hours. I am vaccinated. I care about unvaccinated kids. I know of at least a handful of breakthrough cases. Masking is just not a big deal and it gives my family (two high risk adults, two unvaccinated kids) peace of mind. I really do not understand the hysteria over it.
Because it does not follow science to mandate masks outside. The risk of transmission is extremely low.
If you personally aren’t comfortable with reasonable requirements (and masks outdoors at a swim meet are unreasonable and pointless), then you need to personally choose not to participate.
Exactly.
I reject this entirely. Yes, outdoor transmission is low. Outdoor transmission on pool decks 6 inches from each other is not what those studies are based upon. Close contact but outdoors is still close contact.
Close contact has to be for a prolonged time with the same person. Adults on deck are not next to swimmers for more than 15 minutes. And if you reject this, than don’t participate. Or you and your child can wear a mask.
