Arlington Tryout/Offer Notification

The U13 approach is not inconsistent with what a lot of top teams already do at U12. And a number of key players don't leave the games at all. So I don't see this as a big deal. And if the rosters are 16-18 people, there's no issue at all.

My best friend's son played for the MLS next team this year, and didn't even try out again. She said they drove to NJ or equally far on several occasions, for him to play for seven minutes of the game. There was 18 players on the roster. So doesn't sound like your theory necessarily works for all families and kids.

Ok, my point was that these patterns can be true on top U12 teams without MLS Next substitution rules. I definitely understand how that would be frustrating and was not implying otherwise. There are ecnl teams where players are not even rostered for specific games. Being on the bottom end of a roster would make any long trips very difficult, to be sure.

not being rostered seems preferable to wasting an entire day to play less than 10 minutes

You got that right. You don’t want to be either and probably should play on a different team or at a different club. And again. This has to do with being at the bottom of a roster on a good team. Reality is an itch.

No offer yet, but I have a 2010 and 2012 and this is the week. Let the games begin!

Don't get too excited. The Mclean mass exodus to Arlington for these age groups is very real.

Don't leave out 2013 and 2011.

Get out the popcorn for the 2011G Red and White show

You need a job or your employer needs their money back.

Arlington does NoT develop players, they steal them.

McLean did them the favor by having boneheaded AGD's on both boys and girls side for that age group.

They develop them in the same way you train dogs to chase a frisbee.

Yep. My 2012 moving off red/white as a result. Apparently several others are as well.

Nope. Spoke with the coach. Kinda wild that ECNL is a draw for kids just mastering their times tables.

Somebody needs to explain that “in” at u10 is not in at u13. Soon enough they shall learn. We have seen family after family make this mistake. It’s not like getting into a great private school for pre-k. Then a few years waiting patiently to get back on to top teams as their skill/athleticism/competitiveness deficit never closes. Then the inevitable rationalizations about how it is a great learning experience for their daughter.

There were many 2011 girls from other clubs that came to the tryout I’m assuming so there might be some changes coming

How much does the roster expand going from 7v7 to 9v9? 3 kids per team?

Yes. It can be anyway from 13-16 kids with our club (non Arlington) so probably within the same range.
