They are identified at tryouts/id sessions and then invited to attend training sessions with the team. We had outside players attend several practices with our team.

Many outside players simply requested to attend team practices prior to tryouts so it is not entirely based on actual tryouts

You may not know if that is true. Some players were identified at the Academy/ECNL sessions back in April and then were invited to team training sessions.

the prior post was intended for non ECNL/Academy teams

I know. Some kids were identified at the ECNL/Academy ID sessions and were invited to training sessions with those teams AND the red teams.

We were told tryout attendance was mandatory (after attending several team practices). My kids also attended both tryouts and they were evaluated at tryouts by 7 Coaches at the field as well as by the Coach at team training sessions. I am not sure what happens if you did not attend the tryouts, or at least one of them.

Unlike prior years, I found players were scrutinized more because you had at least 5-8 coaches watching the one field at all times...unlike tryouts of the past where some fields had no coaches and one coach was the one who decided who moved where. It was a panel of evaluations. There were about 2 coaches per every 1 player at the tryouts for 2 separate age groups (2 kids) that we attended.

Not a fan of tryouts but this approach is far better then others I have seen. A host of coaches to evaluate a manageable number of kids

Arlington announced that all players in good standing will receive an offer to return to the Club, however there may be movement between teams.

^there

With the caveat that the player is also "meeting all the team expectations" which feels like this gives the club the option of cutting dead weight.

For the 07s, 08s and 09s, ASA sent an email after tryouts were done that said "All current Arlington Soccer travel players (born in 2007, 2008 and 2009) will receive an invitation to join their 2021-2022 team no later than Friday, May 21." No caveats about meeting expectations or anything. So if you're in one of those years and no one has told you otherwise already, I think you can safely assume your child will get an invite to one of them teams.

I think this is only for the more competitive teams. My son got (and was thrilled to have) a blue team offer without going to a practice - it was just based on the tryouts.

Which year?

Which league did the white teams play this year? I saw that they are playing in ncsl next year. Is that a change?

Yes, a good change. A good ASA White team was stuck in CCLII hell playing 2nd or 3rd teams from much smaller and weaker clubs. I believe with NCSL, teams will be subject to promotion and relegation to better match them against opponents.

Our son got an offer yesterday to join the 2009B White team. Happily accepted.

Congrats! Was he asked to attend a training beforehand?
Anonymous
Yes, he joined a training session with the Red and White teams this past Friday, along with 4 other newcomers. All were given verbal offers at the end of the session.

Thank you for the response. So, was this after session two (not the first session) of tryouts for his age group?
Anonymous
Yes. 1st tryout session was Monday, 2nd was Wednesday. At the end of the 1st, he was invited to join the Friday R/W training. And was told this again in the Wednesday tryout.

Were the other offers for Red or White?

That's great that your son got an offer and happily accepted. My son was at the 09 boys Red/White practice last Friday (he already plays on one of those teams) and he told me that he enjoyed talking to and playing with the newcomers at the training session. Welcome to the the White team! There is a really great group of boys on the Red and White teams this year (most of whom I assume will be back next year). Good players and nice kids. A good group of parents too.
