Every club does tryouts differently, and they may do it differently every year or depending on the coach.
They are generally taking a closer look at the kids for the higher teams. It's possible the other kids may get offers for lower teams if there are enough openings. DS went to two open tryouts at that age for two different clubs. First one was a huge club. There were three fields. They seemed to group kids by size. They put all the biggest kids in the center and started sorting them into even smaller subgroups based on ability until they were only watching one small group. There was one coach each assigned to the other two fields but it was more for show and to provide supervision rather than to seriously consider those kids. None of those kids got moved to the center. We were told later that all the lower teams at that age are roughly equivalent so it really didn't matter. Every child got an offer but the top team offers came from the center field. If your child didn't happen to catch a coach's eye as a big powerful kid you were out of luck. Second was not a big club. The kids had been preassigned to groups randomly and they evaluated within those groups. Some kids were asked to sit out pretty quickly. They appeared to be best kids, the ones that had possession of the ball and made multiple goals. This club did not give an offer to everyone. They were actually working backwards at the tryout by taking a closer look at those they may not give an offer to. This is the only tryout I've seen like this. |
| I would also say don't get discouraged if they don't get in right away. In this area there are always kids that end up having to move before the season starts or between the fall and spring. I would check in again in August and after the fall season ends in November. Find out who the coaches are on the lowest team and contact them directly. Ask if they can go to a couple of practices. It is not impossible to work your way up from the bottom team especially at u10. Almost every kid they added for the spring came from Adp so try to get on ADP if available |
Nothing here yet. Waiting to hear about my 2012 DD who already plays for ASA. |
| I think they said we would hear something on Friday. They got a couple more older age group tryouts tonight so I doubt it will be tomorrow. |
| Are 2010 boys offers out? |
Nope. Friday likely. |
Today is the day, ladies and gents! We are still waiting...anyone else still waiting? |
| Waiting!! |
| Keep an eye out for the email delaying the release of offers until after the Memorial Day tournaments this weekend.... |
Is this a cruel joke or based on actual knowledge? What is holding everything up?? |
| No...just speculation. But at this point it wouldn't surprise me at all. Offers should have gone out by now. |
| There were so many 2011 boys at tryouts. They should form a sixth team instead of just the five currently on the roster. |
tell me you're an arlington soccer parent without telling me you're an arlington soccer parent. |
When you promise current members no cuts, it complicates things. Especially when you get talent from outside trying out and/or excess players try out. Probably trying to decide if they’re going to add an extra team. |
