Bingo.

It’s true, and one of several reasons we decided to keep our first grader home/virtual. I totally support reasonable mitigation measures— masks, no sustained close interactions, etc. But it’s like they’ve worked hard to make sure any social benefits of returning to school are deleted. Hard not to wonder if it’s an intentional attempt to discourage people from choosing hybrid by making it unnecessarily miserable for the kids.

my thoughts exactly - making hybrid miserable so folks revert to distance. how are they getting away with this lunacy is my question.

My child is in baltimore county public schools and this is truly the impression I got. Apparently way too many kindergarteners opted for hybrid over distance learning, and the teacher was like “it might not be possible to bring all of the students back if they all elect to come back. So I just wanted to make sure all parents understood what the day would look like” and it was like, recess 6 feet apart and not on the playground or with any shared equipment, all class would continue to be done via Google meets on the chromebooks while at their desks, separated by plexiglass , with a teacher up front separated by plexiglass, and the staff is at no point allowed to come within 6 feet of a child even if they need help with their schoolwork.

I mean it worked, basically no one is sending their kindergartner in anymore, and a good portion finally just withdrew to homeschool for the year.

how are school districts getting away with this?

Get away with what? Some of these things are necessary to bring kids back into the classroom.

Seems like if you really wanted your kids back you’d do whatever was necessary to get them there. Or maybe you just want to complain about whatever happens no matter what....

Well they haven’t been necessary in private schools. Or other public school systems around the nation. Masked recess 6 feet apart and not in the playground and not using shared balls? And all classes to continue to be done on the computer even though they are in the classroom? The teacher can’t come near them to , like, teach them how to grasp the pencil and write correctly?

Yes, social distancing is a thing during a pandemic.

No wonder our country has failed with the basics....

I think we all know masks and social distancing is different than “kids can’t use the playground” and “fully vaccinated and masked teachers cannot approach a crying child to help them”

Vaccinating teachers is a recent thing.

Maybe they don’t have resources to clean the playgrounds between kids/classes.

Do you want your kids back or not? It’s not going to be just like it was before. And some aspects will suck - some will he fixed and some won’t. But the kids are going back FFS. Stop complaining.

All I'm saying is my child with ASD who was not offered back in due being a Kindergartener will have a hard time understanding why he cant play as he does on the school playground since they opened county owned playgrounds. At our school they plan to use baseball field, and a near by county playground. All areas that we use during none school times even now with Covid. This will be upsetting to all kids regardless if they have a disability. My child is high functioning and gets the 6feet distance rules, but just waiting to see how this all plays out. Parents of SPN kids who were not offered in person option, and now this may have a case of lack of free appropriate education, if our children are asked to go back to DL if they struggle with this recess rule or sitting in their square on the floor when their IEP states alternative seating and movement breaks when needed to maintain adequate focus. Just saying......

APS policy though, like all things APS, implementation will vary wildly.

When our principal was telling us, she kind of gave us that Jim halpert look. like I know I know, ridiculous.

Well, that’s really good to know.

FYI school playgrounds will be closed for 1 hour after school dismissal. This is so kids aren't running around playing after school with more lax rules. It's going to be hard for kids to abide by the school day rules when they frequent the playgrounds with very different rules.

So much for science.

I'm so ready to put my house on the market. APS is a disgrace.

We’re doing exactly this. Saw the writing on the wall last March. 118 days and we’re gone. Can’t come soon enough.

If this is for real, where are you going?

Yes. Totally really. House goes on the market March 18. We’re going far away where kids are actually in school.

Just be sure to emphasize the amazing Arlington schools as a selling point.

Yup. Imagine if we had GOP school leadership? Covid denial. Defund schools. Lies & corruption. Maybe even storming the Capitol.

That’d be much, MUCH worse.

Calm down. Perhaps different voices on the school board could break the groupthink.

Is this science based? Or is this catering to the self preservationist, zero sum game bubble mentality that is so common in this strange county?

Bingo.

Our APS has so no kids are allowed to stay after school and play on school grounds.

Same - that's not what I'm suggesting. Larla can go over to Suzie's backyard or another park. Point being, hybrid is not for socialization. If thats your main priority, form a pod.

I’m sure we will get some quality candidates after this past year of parental temper tantrums. Who’s going to sign up for that?
