The 10 ft at recess thing is ridiculous. Truly. Hopefully APS will pull back on that before March. |
Yes. Totally really. House goes on the market March 18. We’re going far away where kids are actually in school. |
How in the world are they going to actually enforce this? |
It’s true, and one of several reasons we decided to keep our first grader home/virtual. I totally support reasonable mitigation measures— masks, no sustained close interactions, etc. But it’s like they’ve worked hard to make sure any social benefits of returning to school are deleted. Hard not to wonder if it’s an intentional attempt to discourage people from choosing hybrid by making it unnecessarily miserable for the kids. |
Shock collars. |
It’s kind of strange bc principals are saying it’s Zach Popes rule. But Zach specifically denied giving this guidance in an email. |
I'm guessing that APS will hear an earful about this rule this week and walk it back at the next school board meeting. Ten feet is fine for lunch without masks. It makes no sense for a masked recess. It's completely out of the norm for what people in Arlington have decided is okay and inconsistent with all of their other policies. |
It is confusing that indoor sports are allowed, but not outdoor recess. |
The reason it’s 10 feet b/c outside its hard to monitor the 6 ft distance, so by saying 10 they will like end up 6 ft apart. There are no desks or guides and they are in motion. Kids can’t gauge distance well hence extra margin. Don’t any of you have kids? Chill out. |
I spoke to our principal before deciding to stay virtual whenever we had to choose. She was honest about what virtual would look like. Kids sitting in rooms 6’ apart with masks hardly able to interact with each other and no getting pulled into groups with teacher, and the 10’ at recess with an extended day babysitter. No thanks. Everyone is “soooooo happy to be going back,” but I think it’s going to be a huge disappointment. |
Nice. What area? |
I do. And it's why I think it's a ridiculous policy. You chill out. |
Everyone I know who is back in person (not in NOVA) who has similar restrictions actually are happy to be back. At the elementary level, anyway. |
No one pushed back at our town hall. 70% hybrid school. Maybe they just pester the principal on private. |
No, this isn’t why. At the APS town hall back in October, they stated that it’s because 10’ is the rule for athletics, and recess counts as athletics. It still makes no sense. And yes, I kids. |
