trump has the Pentagon planning something big right now.

The US has no mobile nukes at this time.

They are antiaircraft missiles and anti missile missiles and they are in numerous places in DC. They have been for a while. Yes I am ok with that because lots of people want to attack us and we need to defend ourselves.

Military does not like trump. Especially general officers. There are a few here and there but most want him gone. They are not conspiring with him.

Iran is quite dangerous. They may try to take advantage of the last few weeks of a nutjob in the whitehouse. That is what I would be worried about.

Ok, but then that begs the question of “what in the hell are they doing at the carderock naval surface warfare center that’s so important that it requires missiles to defend it”?

It looks like dumpy old warehouse facility to me. I read there’s a long swimming pool type thing inside where they test models of ships or something. That doesn’t seem like the kind of place that would be a key target to protect.

Something's not adding up.

Oh my God. Please stop and go do some research. This is painful.

This is what happens when large portions of the country were not in the military or don't understand it. The missiles there are not to defend that location. They are to defend Washington broadly. You have to hit the planes or missiles away from the main targets: white house, pentagon, Capitol. You can't defend a site from the site. You need coverage over the whole area.

Im pretty sure this has nothing to do with that. The one person pushing the nuclear angle seems very suspicious and was playing the "just asking questions "how do you know?" conspiracy theory game. They also demanded rocket scientist credentials to be shown when someone pointed out the obvious. Now theyre pushing a bioweapons angle. It's absurd but it is not genuine.

“Character” and “military” are mutually exclusive terms. Remember, these are the same people who bomb hospitals and strap bombs to dolphins. If you’re relying on them to do the right thing, you’re going to be very disappointed

I'm very thankful that my freedoms and those of my family and this country aren't dependent on people like you.

LOL as retired military, the freedoms enjoyed in this country are not won on a battlefield but in the courts. The ACLU lawyers are the ones protecting your freedoms.

The military was very close to taking your rights away this summer....very very close. Milley was right there with trump. Right now the military is planning and war gaming different scenarios involving trump and armed militia groups. These planning sessions are not being shared with civilian leadership.

Nobody was close to taking away any rights. Trump is an annoyance that will soon be gone. No fundamental rights have even been at risk. It is people who think the opposite that give trump his power. He is nothing. He has done nothing. Everything has worked the way it was supposed to. Almost nothing of importance was allowed to proceed by the courts, slightly making part of PP's point.

Freedom is won in many places. Yes in a courtroom, but also on a battlefield and every day by good people who do the right things. The military is not actively planning anything. The FBI is another story. But not to keep trump there but to make sure he goes with little fanfare.

PP here. You may be right. But people who have not served or have not made it their business to learn about the military don't really understand what it is or what the people are like.

I’m calling Senator Chris Van Hollen’s office right now.

The constant helicopter flights are bad enough, but now we’ve got nuclear weapons getting installed in Potomac now? Oh HELL no!

Jeff just said those have been there for a long time.

And you’re ok with that?

I don’t know/care how long they’ve been there. It’s not alright to have a missile base near where so many people live! I thought they put these things out in the middle of the country where no one lives - in the Dakotas or places like that. I’m assuming they did that back then because missiles were probably bigger and used underground control centers. So I guess it’s reasonable to assume that they’ve gotten smaller since the cold war but, seriously, why base them in essentially the middle of a city? That’s insane!

They come and go all the time. They are anti-aircraft missile batteries and it is part of the standard operating procedure to deploy them and remove them from military and critical government installations all over. This was a result of 9/11

Are you a missile expert? You said these are anti-aircraft missiles? Like for shooting down airplanes?

They aren’t missiles that carry nuclear bombs?

You know this for sure? How?

I am a rocket expert. Those are not nuclear .

Your lack of specifics suggests otherwise.

What exactly ARE they then, rocket expert? Can you tell us the exact model so we can go to Wikipedia and read about it?

Crickets from the “rocket expert”

I am not him, but they are probably Patriot batteries (they are regularly deployed around DC)

This.
- NP, and a different “rocket expert” (yes, legit degree and relevant experience). Not unusual to have anti-aircraft batteries deployed around the area since 9/11.
This isn’t a “missile base”. Google it. Huge difference.

A thermonuclear weapon weighing about 2,400 pounds(payload). US ICBM has a length of 60 ft weighs 80,000 lb. The US has no mobile land based ICBM. US ICBMs are located at 3 airforce bases. Patriot anti aircraft missiles are 19 ft weight 700 lb with a payload of 90 pounds and are mobile. There are a few sites around DC that have Patriot mobile units. Their target range most likely cover all of DC and other sensitive sites around the area. If they ever fire these there will be a lot of collateral damage.

Not a rocket scientist here, but a quick google search showed me that the US does not in fact have mobile nuclear missiles though we considered it a few times. Did see we have plenty of anti-aircraft rockets, so Occam's razor...

Yeah, that’s what I said. These are anti-aircraft, NOT nukes.
Whoever the PP is that thinks these are nuclear weapons must be deep into conspiracy theory la-la land.

Yes, there is a disagreement about some kind of a two-week halt, but Miller says there are several meetings this week. And Sullivan gives no specifics. Whose office is not responding, and re: what specific issues? Is a particular Secretary not responding to information requests in a timely manner, one or more DASDs? What are their areas etc.? No-one is being instructed not to cooperate by leadership, so it's hard to know what's going on here.

DP - And I agree with the PPs that the Trump Administration has such low credibility and clear aversion to transparency and accountability that I am giving Sullivan the extreme benefit of the doubt. And how do we know that no one is being instructed not to cooperate? I trust that Jake Sullivan knows who to call to set up meetings at DoD.

You don't. Anyone high enough to get that instruction isn't going to talk about it.

I am familiar with one ASD office, where the transition has gone, and continues to go, beautifully. But that ASD is hypercompetent and mission-focused. Are they all like that? Maybe (probably) not, especially post-purge. That’s why naming specific areas/ASDs would clarify.

It would clarify it for us and for purposes of Beltway gossip, but there's no doubt in my mind that when Biden says there's obstruction and Sullivan says there's obstruction (and adds in OMB) that everyone who's involved from DoD and Biden's team knows exactly who and what they are talking about.

And there are a couple of interpretations - one is that the Biden team really doesn't know what's going on and they are signaling that a whole long line of buses is being lined up to throw folks under. Another is that they have a good idea of what they aren't being fully briefed on and are signaling they will shut it down on Jan. 20 if they don't get information. The third is they believe something is being concealed and they aren't going to go along with it.

And this is why I think Austin is a bad pick for SecDef. Biden clearly needs someone he can get through confirmation easily and who knows the place inside and out in order to ferret out information and more importantly oust non civil servant Trump loyalists.

This is la la land. There is no evidence that troops would be deployed. They can't be legally. There were no plans. And there were no troops put on alert -- so it was not very very close. Even if they were, I would not expect those orders to be followed. This is legacy stuff. No one would do this under these facts. You are either Borris or a conspiracy nut.

You gave me a chill because on my Facebook people who live in the area of Fort A.P. Hill are complaining that jets have been scrambling all day, far more than usual. This is Caroline County, south of Fredericksburg. Perhaps it's defensive not offensive preparations?

Somone mentioned missiles and I recalled reading that during the Cold War, D.C. was ringed by missiles. There are pictures on Fairfax Underground.

You madame, are full of it. Fort AP Hill has a grass army airfield. What are they scrambling? Cessnas?

They did attack US citizens. The DC National Guard helicopter incident happened and they are (uniquely) directly under Milley's command. The retired generals stopped it from happening again, god bless them. But make no mistake, the line was crossed that day. Thankfully those patriots stood up for the flag and put a stop to it.

I really hope that the full story of what happened that day will be told.

I don’t trust the military at all. The officer members are made up of people who couldn’t get into good schools (sorry, West Point and Annapolis aren’t good schools, regardless of what you hear) and make it in the business/legal/medical/professional/political world. So they opted for the service, chasing a pension and a cushy job at a defense contractor or the federal govt after they “retire” at 42-44 after 20 years. The enlisted members are even worse, not able to even make it in community colleges, and looking for any way to escape their pathetic lives in one stoplight towns from red state America.

Both groups are jingoistic low brow Neanderthals, who think violence is a reasonable solution for countries to resolve their differences.

If there is indeed a coup planned, it will have the backing of the military. There may be a few in the ranks who object, but the majority will support it, knowing they’ll be part of the ruling class if it’s successful. Something they’d never otherwise be a part of on their own as a civilian.

I’ve never been as scared to be in this country as I am right now. The next few weeks will be absolutely terrifying waiting to see if something happens.

And if it happens, I can only imagine the fate that awaits me and millions like me. I fear we will all end up in mass graves. That’s what always happens when men like trump are faced with the choice of staying in power.

You really can’t beat the benefits, though. You can live like a Fairfax king on a $105k salary with the housing allowance. And the chow? Well, it’s not like mom’s home cooking. But it’ll do.
