Tell me again why we aren’t opening elementary schools in at least a hybrid format?

Notice the percentage of white vs brown and black families that feel comfortable coming back to school. And what percentage of teachers feel comfortable coming back to school.

Wow. Now that’s the transparency I want to see at our school.

The question of whether to open schools should be decided by whether we meet health standards for safely reopening (which DC does in spades). The question of whether to reopen shouldnt be subject to a vote. That's absurd.

I think people should be able to decide by majority what they feel is safe.

Totally disagree. Decisions should be based on science and schools should open. If you as a family or teacher don’t want to attend, stay home and homeschool for a year.

All families should not be made hostage just because some families don’t believe in science and facts.

You mean majority white families who don’t think it’s fair POC’s opinions are dictating decisions.

I’m not white and it’s not a damn race or political issue. So don’t try to make it be. It’s a pandemic and a science issue. Full stop.

This is hilarious. So Two Rivers is going to be making their decision from a survey and not on scientific facts???

Are you kidding me. It’s not like the pandemic is going to end June of 2021. What, are they going to be closed for 2-3 years until this blows over?

Did you seriously just refer to being home with your children as being held hostage? Dear god get this woman’s child back in school ASAP. Cares Class....anything!!!

The science says schools stay closed and winter is going to be a hard one.

If you want to go to open schools with high case loads I suggest you move to Iowa. They'll be open no matter what.

Are you that dense? PP did not say that. PP said that TR is making decisions based on a survey and not science and subjecting all families to this result, i.e taking them hostage.

I suggest your work on understanding context.

Are you seriously trying to compare DC to Iowa and think mask compliance and social distance is same for every state??

quit your job.

My point exactly, this is always the rebuttal. Calling attention to an unsafe practice that is causing my colleagues and I stress, and then being told to quit our jobs for even mentioning it.

You need to educate yourself on the actual risks here. Kids don’t nap after 3 in DC schools and transmission rates are extraordinarily low for that age group. WHO doesn’t even recommend mask wearing for kids that age. It is extremely rare for young kids to be vectors for adults.

Kids this age have been in day care or preschool for months. I don’t recall seeing tons of headlines about preschool teacher deaths, do you?

This. Germany just published a report on their daycares (that's up to K age since school starts in 1st grade), which have been open all along without social distancing, and the result was that they are NOT driving spread. Very few cases, no outbreaks. Same appears to be true for elementary schools.

Way to misconstrue what the PP said to suit your agenda and sling a misplaced insult.

Hey, it’s the ‘quit your job’ crew.
Quit your job of parenting. You are terrible at it.
Stop reproducing.

New Studies Add to Evidence that Children May Transmit the Coronavirus

Experts said the new data suggest that cases could soar in many U.S. communities if schools reopen soon.

More black people have experienced their loved ones DIE of this virus, or who are facing longterm impacts. Also TR cited many other factors to support the decisión.
