Don’t you want your kid to be in a place with good values and where staff is treated right? It is not easy to switch schools, I get that, but if you don’t want to leave, I would make sure to make a huge fuss with the board and the new head so they know how displeased the community is with their shenanigans

Bullis parents and non-chair trustees are afraid to step up. Ridiculous.

I'm no fan of their sports obsession – however, prime location, nearly $50k a year, very plush campus and facilities, $100M endowment, very generous donors, and 1320 median SAT makes it objectively elite.

I’m not a Bullis fan but you hit the hammer on the nail with this one!

So Jeff receives anonymous threat on an anonymous board from an anonymous lawyer.

Including that big building with HIS OWN name on it - who does that?

I safely assume he raised the money and orchestrated financial instruments for it?

I think the pp was being sarcastic. According this thread the board claimed it was the wish of a big donor. M’kay.

...because safe bet the "discovery center" wouldn't have been built without his efforts? Nearly every private school would eagerly name something after the person who rallied donors and used whatever instruments to get a nearly $30M project complete.

Well in his defense, they slapped his name big and huge outside of Roosevelt in Greenbelt after they named the auditorium after him too.

The article actually called this school “elite”?

You are off by a factor of 10 in the endowment of Bullis. It’s $10 million not $100 million.

Thank you all for giving me another story to follow and enjoy. Haven’t had one since the ballet Coronavirus party.

The obscene sports obsession is something I will never understand, but evidently that's what the board, alums, and current families want. Different stokes for different folks.

It’s so weird that Boarman has only 3 jobs on LinkedIn. The first was at the PG school, and the other 2 were held concurrently—Bullis HOS and chancellor of a NC boarding school: https://www.ncssm.edu

Apparently he resigned in July to “spend more time with his family.”

Hilarious! Guess Tar Heels don’t read the Post (or dcum). Plus, what a sociopath.

It seems he was so celebrated and given such... latitudes... for his fundraising prowess? So can someone explain the need for such a large MoCo bond if he/they raised the needed $27 million from donors for the Discovery Center? Did the school somehow spend the entire $38 million county bond, too?

"The school has raised almost all of the $27 million needed for the project from private donors, according to the school’s director of communications. Bullis also received a $38 million bond from Montgomery County that it will have to pay back to help finance the project."

Interesting. They also took up to $5 million in ppp money.

Anonymous wrote:What is the appeal of Bullis? Why do parents choose to send their children there with so many alternatives in the area?

We send our kids there because we absolutely love the teachers and my kids are thriving and wake up ready to go to school everyday. However, if the teachers start leaving, we will probably be leaving along with them. I never liked Boarman and am thrilled he is out. We are hopeful for the future. My kids are happy, so that’s why we stay.

Wait until MS... you’re in for a rude awakening.

One is in middle school and loves his teachers.

Are they really going to take his name off the building? I hope so
