Intermittent Fasting Thread

Anonymous wrote:Hi - today was day 2 for me. I'll call myself... Phoebe. I have gained a ton of weight during quarantine after losing 20 lbs for the first time in my life last year. Very depressing. But the super low carb diet I did was not sustainable in my regular life, so I am hoping to find something a bit more ... portable for long term. I'm 6'1" and 183 lbs so at the very outer edge of a normal BMI. Would like to re-lose the 20 and maybe 5-10 more, but I won't be greedy.

Oh I also recently became a vegetarian again and it's been hard. (I haven't commented in that other thread, but I'm about to.) My son just randomly decided to become one and I got on board to support him, and now all the COVID/meat processing stories are totally grossing me out so I want to stick with it. But I definitely eat way more carbs than I did when I was veg.

Sorry, when I was *not veg.

I started today. Coffee with a splash of H&H this morning and first meal at around 11:00. I will try to wrap dinner up at 7:30. Are you all drinking alcohol at all? Is a glass or two of wine okay on the weekends? I typically don't drink during the week unless I'm out to dinner but I have about 2 glasses on Fridays and Saturdays.

Generally speaking, you can do whatever you want during your eating/drinking window, so if you want to drink alcohol, go ahead. But the reality is that IF usually works for people because one way or another it reduces the calories consumed. If your goal is to lose weight and IF doesn't seem to be working, you may want to roll back the alcohol, too.

I had a drink last night because it was our anniversary. There’s not a hard no to anything. I usually loosen my restrictions on weekends a little, but I generally avoid alcohol because they are easy calories for me to cut. It’s up to you! Sweets are my weakness.

Agree with this. I am definitely looser at the weekend, and I’ll have a 9pm glass of wine if the moment is right. If I am sticking to the fast strictly 80-90% of the time, it hasn’t messed with my results too much.

Yes, did you cut anything else? And did you do 16/8 or something more extreme? That is inspiring!

I'm back on track with the IF ... finish eating by 8 pm, don't eat until 12 noon or 2 in the afternoon. It is hard being home all day and doing this! Especially with this baking obsession my kids have.

Not weighing myself, but I do think my jeans are looser after 2 weeks of this. OR I need to wash them.

For people doing IF for health reasons, how do you get enough calories in without being overful? I have to eat smaller meals because of reflux, but I also need to leave plenty of time in between eating to digest. What’s your typical day of eating look like, if you’re in a similar situation? I’ve also cut exercise down to light walks and weights, no hard cardio sessions.

Mine is something like the following, and I’ve been losing weight and don’t want to lose more

9am - 2 eggs with sautéed vegetables, coffee with milk

12pm - sardines in oil on toast, strawberries and yogurt

20 min walk

3pm - 1/2 mango, few crackers or cheese

6pm - beef with roasted vegetables, rice and beans

20 min walk
7pm - cup of ginger honey tea

Lost 7.5 lbs since May 21 while doing 16/8. Watching what I eat and continue to keep an eye on the calories...

I'm drinking alcohol in the window. I'm losing slowly and acknowledge it would be faster if I cut it out. However, I don't eat any sweets or anything, which might be someone else's vice.

I love food too much to do anything “fad”ish long term, although I had good results with South Beach ten years ago. I need to lose about 30 pounds.

However, today was my second day of 16:8 and I am loving it. I can stick with this. More energy already.

Agnes here.
I've been pretty consistent over the last two weeks of not eating before noon or two, but I was in the 2nd half of my cycle so my body was feeling fat. Should get my period today or tomorrow, so I can feel that bloated feeling going away, which feels great. Yay! Hope it shows up in my waistline.

I’ve been doin IF since last November and in May found that I had lost 18 pounds.
But now I am up 5 pounds again!! I am still fasting. Anyone know what’s going on?
Perhaps my calorie intake has increased? Will that make such a difference?
