Yes, the Garrett Park ES areas across Twinbrook Parkway. But they seem among the likeliest to be rezoned to Woodward. |
Fallsmead ES capacity 551 enrollment 558 Meanwhile classes at Fallsmead have 28 students for every teacher no classroom help for teachers. No extra resources because of high SES. |
There are a ton of MCPS schools that would love to be overcrowded by only 7 students. |
I'm that PP.. what makes you think MCPS will do what parents want, especially when it comes to zoning? I was part of the RM ES#5 boundary discussions. There were *lots* of parents who told BOE what they wanted, but guess what, many of them didn't get their way. |
So? Have you looked at MCPS cluster maps? There are clusters where islands are created, where some neighborhoods have to take a bus to pass two under enrolled schools to get to an over enrolled school, some even walking distance. |
Uh huh. BoE shouldn't, and almost certainly won't, reassign people in the walk zone just because you want poor kids to go to schools your kids don't go to. |
Oh no, I don't think MCPS will just do what parents want. Especially in a boundary study affecting multiple schools and/or clusters, what families at one ES think shouldn't be the determining factor. And I'm sure there is even some disagreement among parents within a school. |
| Its a crime to ever rezone a school out of a walk zone to a school where you need to take the bus. Seriously, kids already do not get enough physical activity. Walking to school is a huge benefit to the kids and the environment. |
People are far more likely to accept a rezoning that is rationalized by being moved to a closer school . No one wants to get bussed away because MCPS wants to determine school assignments by race and achieve their demographic quotas. |
Good grief. The few TB students in the walk zone to RM already cross a major road by foot (though many of them just walk east to Twinbrook Pkwy and other similar stops and take the bus to avoid that). |
Study this map, please: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/TwinbrookES.pdf |
When lots of people want lots of different things, not everyone will get their way. |
|
In 5-10 years Twinbrook will no longer be low income or high FARMS. It is turning over quickly already. Getting moved into Churchill or Wootton would just speed up what is already happening. Rockville is not like SS. Rockville has no problem pushing out the poor people and redeveloping areas. The low income kids will end up in the east or up in Germantown.
It will be another UMC neighborhood with weird boundaries being bussed away from the HS right across the street for no reason. |
Tbes families did not want tbes broken up but that doesn't mean they would not be happy with anotther hs. They would keep their title 1 status. |
EXACTLY. They did not want TBES broken up partly because that meant losing Title 1 status. That would not happen if all they did was rezone TBES to Wootton HS. |
