Wootton boundaries

any chance fallsgrove gets rezoned to wootton?

Yes. Exactly as much chance as literally any other scenario.

the reason i ask is that while Wootton is at capacity and RM is over capacity, Fallsgrove is one of the higher SES commujnities that make up RM and I can't imagine that they would take it out of there? What neighborhood would replace Fallsgrove in RM cluster?

Fallsgrove could just as easily be rezoned to Crown.

It would make more sense for TB to go to Wootton. Yes, it's closer to Wootton, but Fallsgrove is closer to Wootton, yet they are zoned for RM. Wootton FARMs rate is <5%.

Or MCPS decided that the only way to increase URM representation was to use "peer cohort", a la Metis report.

Where does the Metis report mention peer cohort? On which pages?

Don't know but it was a stroke of genius to bake the differences in school quality into the criteria. So many parents try to game the system by ensuring their children receive a stronger foundation than other less affluent children that are as or more gifted.

lol.. "stroke of genius..".. the Metis report recommended it...

Recommendation 3a: Implement modifications to the selection process used for academically competitive programs in MCPS, comprising elementary centers for highly
gifted students and secondary magnet programs, to focus these programs on selecting equitably from among those applicants that demonstrate a capacity to thrive in the
program, that include use of non-cognitive criteria, group-specific norms that benchmark student performance against school peers with comparable backgrounds,
and/or a process that offers automatic admissions to the programs for students in the top 5-10% of sending elementary or middle schools in the district.

Which part are you complaining about, here? This? "group-specific norms that benchmark student performance against school peers with comparable backgrounds" Why is that discriminatory?

Using peer cohort to increase URM is a bit discriminatory against those students who happen to live in an area with lots of other smart kids. If the MS magnet was like CES where there were several magnet MS for a group of clusters, I think that would be more fair. But MS magnet is for the entire lower part of MoCo.

probably the most likely scenario.

Twinbrook families would object to being sent to Wootton. RM is across the street from Twinbrook right now. Fallsgrove is much closer to Wootton. Travilah and Dufief should go to QO. Brown Station should go to GHS. The areas north of Great Seneca should go to Crown.

MCPS needs to avoid having kids cross major highways or major roads just to be bussed a school further away to meet MCPS diversity goals.

That's not just limited to Potomac.

Last week someone was all eager to reassign Twinbrook to Churchill. This week you're all eager to reassign Twinbrook to Wootton.

Students from Twinbrook are in the walk zone to Richard Montgomery. I understand that some people zoned for Richard Montgomery HS are eager to reassign Twinbrook to [a school that isn't Richard Montgomery], but really.

TB has bus service to RMHS. The bus can turn on Wootton Pkway straight to Wootton HS instead of going further north and turning on RM Drive. It would be an extra 5min.

People and MCPS are eager to spread out FARMs. This is a really good way to do it.

Indeed.. yet it is not zone that way.

TB families can object all they want. If MCPS thinks this is for the best, then they'd do it.

Lovely. Nice to know that the school system is made up of a-holes who could care less what the citizens think. No accountability run amok.

The parts of the Twinbrook ES service area farthest away from Richard Montgomery HS have bus service. Most of the service area does not and is within 2 miles of Richard Montgomery High School. Look at a map.

You realize that was just some anonymous person on DCUM talking, not MCPS right?

It's not, but DCUM has a certain component of anonymous posters who believe that kids from low-income families should go to schools attended by other people.
