Are you zoned for Twinbrook ES, or are you happily reassigning other people?

o
Cold Spring is practically in the Churchill district. It might get redistricted to Churchill, but otherwise there's zero chance it gets moved from Wootton.

Fallsmead ES capacity 551 enrollment 558

Meanwhile classes at Fallsmead have 28 students for every teacher no classroom help for teachers. No extra resources because of high SES.

There are a ton of MCPS schools that would love to be overcrowded by only 7 students.

But none of them close enough to Wootton for the switch to make sense. Maybe Rachel Carson? But that would mean that you take another place with high SES and move it out of RM over to wootton. Wootton is over capacity and in dire need of repairs. This spring/summer the AC was brought in by some sort of pump from the outside. I live across the steeet in Rockshire townhouses and it was extremely loud. The schools that are overcrowded have smaller class sizes and teacher to student ratio, they get resources Fallsmead could not even dream of.

oh, please.. prior to Rustin being built, pretty much all of the ESs in the RM cluster were extremely over crowded, AND had large class sizes. Even with Rustin built, my DC's class size was 32/27, and it is still over capacity.

I would bet on Cold Spring escaping this. I agree that geographically it would make no sense to send Cold Spring neighborhoods to NW, GHS or Rockville HS. However, it doesn't make any sense to bus kids from the areas in Darnestown next to Wootton and QO to NW and now possibly to SV.

Cold Spring has the dubious distinction of being the highest performing elementary school in the county and has lots of asian american families. This puts it right in the target zone for those in and around MCPS drooling at the idea of breaking down the W schools.

If you had told Cold Spring parents several years ago that their kids who scored way higher than everyone else in the county would be barred from the magnet so that lower performing white students living in the DCC could take their spots, they would not have believed it. Yet here we are with TPMS now filled with less than stellar lower scoring DCC kids and all the brilliant Cold Spring kids off to Frost.

So there'll be a whole cohort of brilliant kids at Frost, and they won't have to take that dreaded bus ride to Takoma Park.

Yes it will, go Cold Spring. Your statement about Asian American families is ridiculous and racist. The good news is that the students aren't going anywhere, except maybe to Churchill, which would be ok.

Sounds good. Just unroll Takoma Park curriculum in one of the classrooms filled with those students who would have gone to Takoma in the past or just barely missed the cut-off, and we are set. Perhaps some of the discarded magnet teachers could come in and be appreciated and validated there, too.

Very true. If you are in Potomac -- Cold Spring, Wayside, Potomac Elementary area, you are pretty much protected from ending up somewhere bad. That is why we pay so much for our houses people!!

If they can bus Kensington kids all the way from Einstein to WJ, they can bus anyone anywhere.

Before the DuFief addition is done, there'll be a boundary study and some students from Rachel Carson will be rezoned there.

Those kids won't necessarily go to Wootton.

OP: No one knows this stuff until it happens. Calm down.

Seriously? PP, you think you say something like that and the OP will calm down? It pretty much says..
No one knows until it happens. Panic.

That's just 4 miles. The county is 500 square miles.

That seems irrelevant. Distances are a linear measurement. A square that is around 22 miles across is also 500 sq miles. Point being is 4 miles is significant in terms of moco busing.

Who cares! If they wanted to bus Wootton kids 10 miles to put an end to segregation at the W's I'd be for it.

That's ridiculous. You want to go to Wootton? Buy a house near Wootton.

It's about 33 miles east-west and 28-29 miles north-south, at its maximum width/length.

4 miles isn't significant in terms of bus distance to MCPS schools, at least not for high schools.

If you live off Montrose Rd in the City of Rockville, your nearest high schools are Churchill (3.3 miles), Walter Johnson (2.9 miles), and Richard Montgomery (2.6 miles). The neighborhood is zoned for Walter Johnson.
