Or anyone who’s worked there in the last decade or so. |
Maret is more selective. College placement is better or the same as Sidwell and Cathedral schools. It’s basically the same population of kids. |
Maret has this information on its website: https://www.maret.org/admission Maret's expansion years are K, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 9th |
It’s the best and most selective. The GOAT. It’s the Big Zero (comes before the Big 3). |
BASIS is best. |
Wow. I thought I was the only Basis troll here.. Go Basis. Good education and political bs |
Outplacement statistics are available on each of these schools' websites. Don't listen to one person's uneducated and completely biased opinion on this forum for factual information. Here, for example, is a direct quote from STA's website: Over the past five years, the following colleges and universities have enrolled the most St. Albans graduates: University of Chicago (39) Yale University (19) Dartmouth College (16) Tulane University (13) Harvard University (10) Columbia University (9) Bates College (8) Davidson College (8) Boston College (7) Georgetown University (7) Northwestern University (7) Princeton University (7) Wake Forest University (7) Washington and Lee University (7) Washington University in St. Louis (7) Wesleyan University (7) Amherst College (6) Bowdoin College (6) Colgate University (6) Emory University (6) University of Virginia (6) Now Maret is completely different than STA and you may prefer the classroom culture, the educational philosophy, the politics of the parents to those of a Cathedral school. But clearly STA has comparable and arguably even better college outplacement. |

I agree with the message of this post....and I'm a Maret parent. I'm thrilled with the school, thrilled that my kid loves it and still grateful that they were admitted. That said, to suggest that Maret college matriculation list is better than STA/NCA/GDS/SFS is an exercise in futility. The reality is that they are all amazing schools, slightly different from each other in terms of vibes and ideal students but unquestionably wonderful. It makes more sense to express thanks and gratitude that we're fortunate enough to have a kid there than to try to impute that results are better from one than another. And by the way, I still believe tha being a great student at a less intense school is the "hack" to high school happiness. Burke, Field, St. Andrews, SSFS and many that take plenty of incoming on these boards are great schools with great outcomes and a hell of a lot less stress. |

+1
Don’t let the Bisgaard factor cheapen the brand. |
| Can someone give me the "Maret vibe"? What type of student does well? What are the parents like? |
100% This was/is my whole philosophy. |
And Maret too, no? One of the reasons I like Maret so much as a prospective family is that it seems to have challenging classes/rigor without as much stress as GDS/Sidwell. Am I wrong? |
I think Maret is generally less cut throat and aggressively competitive and more collaborative and community focused than other top tier schools. Make no mistake, it's academically strong and, while I despise the word, "rigorous," but in a less "homework for the sake of homework" kind of way. Their campus is definitely older and less spectacular, the facilities adequate for sure but not awe inspiring, and the community is filled with families who care less about these things than other things. While cliche, other families are really nice and warm and seem genuine. We love it. |
No, you're correct. It's certainly challenging and obviously is seen by colleges at a top tier school, but seems to be slightly less stress-inducing as the rest of their peer schools. |
