SFS is cheaper than a nanny unless you’re exploring yours? https://www.axios.com/local/washington-dc/2022/07/08/dc-expensive-child-care |
It’s the Bisgaard(s) factor. You have to give a discount for the risk of the school tanking after they both presided over that spectacular crash and burn at Whittle. I’m not sure you’re getting enough of a cut rate |
“Exploiting” that is, sorry must be that I was taught by a nanny through the middle school. |
Good try to clear the waitlist! Bwahaha |
I admit as a newly accepted family, the "Bisgaard factor" gives me pause, but we are otherwise very excited about the school. I hope he is able to continue the good things happening there. |
| It’s a lovely school, but you should turf them out asap |
| Is Maret as selective as Sidwell, GDS, and the Cathedral Schools? |
|
Yes, for the students.
No, for the admin. |
for sporty kids. College outcomes can’t compare. |
Has the board changed markedly? If not, I’m not sure what makes you think the new HoS—Whittle tenure aside— will steer into the iceberg any more than the outgoing HoS. He might even actually remember the names of his employees and not try to get anyone who leaves voluntarily blackballed from peer institutions. |
| I can’t imagine anyone but one of the Bisgaards would say that. |
Fair. |
Agreed |
| Hi. Can I ask a newbie question? Upthread there were some mentions of “expansion years.” Can someone please explain what that means? Thank you! |
It's a grade level where they expand the size of the class. Not a Maret parent here, but for many schools it would be JK/PR (duh!), K, first year of middle school, 9th. More kids are accepted for these expansion grade levels during each admissions cycle as opposed to a non-expansion grade where only a couple of spots may be available. |
