Maret is more selective. College placement is better or the same as Sidwell and Cathedral schools. It’s basically the same population of kids.

Outplacement statistics are available on each of these schools' websites. Don't listen to one person's uneducated and completely biased opinion on this forum for factual information.
Here, for example, is a direct quote from STA's website:

Over the past five years, the following colleges and universities have enrolled the most St. Albans graduates:
University of Chicago (39)
Yale University (19)
Dartmouth College (16)
Tulane University (13)
Harvard University (10)
Columbia University (9)
Bates College (8)
Davidson College (8)
Boston College (7)
Georgetown University (7)
Northwestern University (7)
Princeton University (7)
Wake Forest University (7)
Washington and Lee University (7)
Washington University in St. Louis (7)
Wesleyan University (7)
Amherst College (6)
Bowdoin College (6)
Colgate University (6)
Emory University (6)
University of Virginia (6)

Now Maret is completely different than STA and you may prefer the classroom culture, the educational philosophy, the politics of the parents to those of a Cathedral school. But clearly STA has comparable and arguably even better college outplacement.

I agree with the message of this post....and I'm a Maret parent. I'm thrilled with the school, thrilled that my kid loves it and still grateful that they were admitted. That said, to suggest that Maret college matriculation list is better than STA/NCA/GDS/SFS is an exercise in futility. The reality is that they are all amazing schools, slightly different from each other in terms of vibes and ideal students but unquestionably wonderful. It makes more sense to express thanks and gratitude that we're fortunate enough to have a kid there than to try to impute that results are better from one than another.

And by the way, I still believe tha being a great student at a less intense school is the "hack" to high school happiness. Burke, Field, St. Andrews, SSFS and many that take plenty of incoming on these boards are great schools with great outcomes and a hell of a lot less stress.

And Maret too, no? One of the reasons I like Maret so much as a prospective family is that it seems to have challenging classes/rigor without as much stress as GDS/Sidwell. Am I wrong?

No, you're correct. It's certainly challenging and obviously is seen by colleges at a top tier school, but seems to be slightly less stress-inducing as the rest of their peer schools.

I guess easier. That said, if I can choose two paths to same destination, one easier and one harder, I wouldn't have to think twice about my preference.

+1. I wouldn’t say better either but I’d say almost identical to GDS/Sidwell. There was a thread about last year’s and the colleges looked exactly the same. But keep in mind, these are essentially same type of kids with same parents and legacies. Maret may be more difficult just because the smaller size so they don’t expand as much in 9th as the others.

Just think about the peer group and alumni too. It’s similar but also very different. Overall a wonderful position to be in

Not scientific as these are voluntary but here is 2022 class (also backed up by this, bold is class of 2022 but doesn’t identify more than 1 kid that year):

A poster was arguing that Maret’s outplacement was not in the same league as Sidwell, NCS and STA. The list you posted is nit better vs Maret’s. It’s the same.

I do not understand why you are so invested in this. It’s usually the kids who are admitted in 9th and kids with a hook through their parents. These are the same kids who apply and are accepted to 2 or 3 of these schools. They are pretty impressive kids.

Haven’t y’all realized that it’s “seen” as top tier because rich & powerful send their kids there, not because it’s academically outstanding? The Rices and Zientses of the world are getting into whatever college they want, regardless of where the kids did high school.

Whatever allows you to sleep at night is good with me. Seems pretty obvious that your kid isn't there, so hopefully they're happy at whatever superior school they are attending.

Meanwhile, my kid and my family is quite happy there.

Wow, it seems that I better reject my child's spot and let someone in the waiting pool have. Thanks for the advice PP!

My kid loves to be academically challenged (loves to study, loves to be top of the class, etc). Will he be adequately challenged at Maret? My sense is that Maret offers rigor and that kids who love to study and excel might stand out a little more than say, Sidwell or STA. Is thet accurate?

Your kid got into all three? Congratulations.

Yes, your kid will be plenty challenged at Maret.

Don’t decline the spot! But do demand the Bisgaards leave.

To what end? So the current head can swoop back in and “save the day” again, but like 30 years ago?

No, hire a competent, unblemished HoS. Y’know like the other top schools you all want to be
