And Sidwell's jumped the shark in terms of tuition. $44k for a 4 year-old! |
But people continue to pay because Chelsea Clinton, and the Obama girls attended......Foolish. At 44K, I would rather hire a well educated nanny to teach my kid how to eat play doh, and sling sand. Good grief. We are private, but private starts at 6th or 9th in terms of being worth anything over 20K. Your local catholic, Montessori, and (gasp) public is good enough at this age.—. My two cents ((Yeah I know come on all the Sidwell groupies)

| Our daughter was accepted to Maret for seventh grade. Does anyone know what the current sixth grade class is like? We're new to the area and don't know many people we can ask. Thanks so much! |
| Maret overenrolled the current 6th grade class and I heard there were three spots for seventh. So there won’t be many new kids coming in 7th. I’ve heard the kids are pretty nice in that grade. One thing to note is 5th and 6th grade at Maret are MS, and do lots of MS type work such as working on note taking and other skills. My DS found 7th so much harder than 8th. Depending on your kid’s skill set, be prepared for a rude awakening in 7th. |
| Any thoughts on the current 7th grade class? |
GDS is similar to Sidwel and the Cathedral schools. Lots of academics pressure and 3-4 hours of homework a night plus weekends. Maret has block scheduling with time during the school day to do homework and meet with teachers plus no homework over breaks. It’s a lot like a college schedule. GDS is bigger and has a new building. Maret facilities beside sports need to be renovated. They are two very different schools. |
Hi PP, our kid was also accepted for 7th grade at Maret. Congrats! It was our first choice so we are happy but I also share concerns about what the current class is like and the social transition. FWIW, my kid is friendly and pretty down-to-earth. They will be attending the 7th grade shadow day and I hope they are able to meet some other nice kids in the grade (both current and new) to make them less nervous about the move. |
| Did Maret notify applicants of the larger than normal tuition hikes that are coming over the next two years? For year after next, they told current families to expect something close to 10% increase. |
I know a bunch of 6th graders at Maret from my neighborhood- and they are really great kids! Very nice, down to earth parents. I don't have a kid at Maret at all, so I have no idea about the internal vibe, FWIW. |
Uh Maret had one of the lowest tuition hikes this year and total is about $8-10k lower than most. US tuition is going from $44k to $46k. |
Hi! Congratulations to you too! Our first choice also. We'll be at the shadow day too and hoping our kiddo gets a chance to meet other nice kids. (She's also friendly and pretty down-to-earth for what it's worth). Maybe we'll run into you there! |
Boy or girl? |
Me too. I literally was paying my nanny to teach through College. But then the kid got into SFS so I was like oh no? |
| Anyone know how many kids were accepted for 6th this year, and the ratio of girls/boys/silbings? |
|
No one can actually answer your question except those who will not (those in the admission office).
The only “official” info is that a total of about 12-15% of kids were accepted across the school. It can reasonably be assumed that the lower school entry years were likely in the 15-20% range and 9th grade was probably in the 5-10% range. |
