Same here, 22182, nothing |
What exactly does CogAT verbal measure then, and why is it given any credence? If it doesn't correlate strongly with actual verbal IQ (WISC VCI), and likewise doesn't correlate strongly with language arts achievement (iready, DRA), then how is it even relevant for AAP? I would hope the committee overlooks my kid's barely above average CogAT verbal in favor of his WISC VCI in the 120s and his above grade level achievement tests. At least the quantitative and nonverbal CogAT scores were very consistent with the IQ and achievement testing for my kid. |
22030 also, and both the cogat scores and in-pool letter were sent home yesterday for my child. |
We got pool letter last week in school folder. No cogat score letter though. Weekly school newsletter via email says they will mail them this week. Maybe the scores will come next week. |
Group tests like the CogAT are screeners only. It is a measure of a student's potential to succeed in school-related tasks. It should not be confused as a measure for intelligence. The WISC is the gold standard for measuring intelligence. The CogAT is not as reliable as the WISC. |
| Agree. It is the best predictor of academic achievement- not IQ. |
Moreso than actual academic achievement tests? |
I know the Cogat is not an IQ test, but I thought it was supposed to generally approximate one. Are you saying it in no way approximates an IQ test? |

My twins: which one has a more chance or which one do I need to think about the appeals?

19:38 PP here. For my kid, cogat composite approximates wisc fsiq really well. Cogat Quant and Wisc FRI were about the same. Cogat nonverbal and Wisc VSI were also about the same. Achievement tests seem pretty consistent with all of these scores too. Wisc VCI and language arts achievement are consistent. Cogat verbal seems to have little correlation to any of the IQ or achievement in language arts. |
I believe the correlation is .76 |
Nope....still waiting |
They weigh NNAT equally to the cogat! This is a fact. Lots of kids score higher on the cogat, though. It’s easier to prep for and the county knows this. But the aap selection cmte weighs them equally. Gbrs is the last piece they look at because it’s too subjective, so it’s weighted differently. A high cogat and a low nnat is a red flag! Be prepared to appeal with a strong WISC if you have only one high score on the nnat or cogat. Best candidates have high nnat and cogat. |
